yeah, for GC/PS2 Odin (Lite) is the lowest you want to go, and Deck is ideal (with the caveats of an x86 handheld, namely battery life and weight).
We don't really have great GC/PS2 on the "normal" handhelds yet. Maybe with different chipsets we can get a Linux handheld that can play them pretty soon.

If you want to play GB on a modern screen, half the devices in that picture can do it. Such mods are ultimately just dumbasses wanting to "modernize" something they'll barely fucking use. I get your point, it's vintage hardware at this point, a piece of history, modifying it feels like you're breaking it in a way, it's no longer that classic console as it was back then... but if someone's still using it and prefers it over the new options, I also get it, Game Boy screens were garbage before the SP... I loved my OG GBA, but even going out in the sun didn't help much, it's a hard screen to see no matter the circumstance, it never looks good, only tolerable, and it's a shame since it stops you from truly appreciating the graphics and colors of what you're playing.

Received a BSP-D6 bluetooth controller that was shilled here a few threads back.
The controller feels very light and feels quite good to hold it. Right stick gets in thek way when pressing face buttons. Face buttons feel mushy and have minimal travel.
D-pad is slippery, wobbly and mushy. Shoulder pads feel all right.
When shaking it, the sticks rattle a little but that's all the noise from it.
The sticks feel like they have too much tension and it feels difficult to control them precisely.
I didn't notice much input lag but only tested with some snes platformers.

About what I expected for 20€ shipped. It does the job but isn't anything fancy

The Game Gear and Atari Lynx both blew the Gameboy out of the fucking water in terms of technology and playability, but the Gameboy succeeded because of price. If SEGA waited 5 more years until the price for its parts were garbage-bin tier, and had the capability of improving its battery life, it would have blown the Gameboy Color away in terms of competition. I mean, the Gamegear plays and looks better than the fucking Gameboy color, and the Game Gear is 8 years older than it.

>> No.10195625

>>10195557
Game Boy won because of price, battery, library and due to being the 1st major handheld by a recognizable home console brand, it had lots of merit and is still excellent, same goes for its successors... but yes, Game Gear was also fantastic and its a shame that price and battery brought it down, library was way worse than any Nintendo ones, but it was still superb, the screen was also way better than the Game Boy, Game Boy Color and even the original Game Boy Advance, as it actually had a backlight, it's ridiculous that Nintendo took until 2003 to give us that, though when they did it was sweet as the SP was pretty much the perfect handheld. I wish SEGA had given the handheld market another shot with a proper Game Gear successor.

>>10195625
Also, adding to my last comment, even if SEGA made a good Game Gear 2, with decent installments of all their major IPs in it, Game Boy Color would've won thanks to Pokémon alone, this is the IP that made sure Nintendo, alongside their low prices and long battery life, had the whole handheld market by the balls.

I still love Game Gear though, probably my favorite handheld library due to me being a huge Sonic and SEGA fag, though I'll admit I'm biased.

Widescreen for PS1 and DC are actually quite good, though I still prefer playing in original 4:3 most of the time. It's also good for streaming, but I definitely prefer 3:2 or 4:3 overall. I like playing Megadrive and Saturn with square pixels rather than squishing down to 4:3, which16:9 benefits from a bit, but 3:2 is better (virtually perfect) for that.

It probably would have been fine if they kept the production run low. There is a good number of diehard Sega fanboys here who would pay $300 for a Dreamcast mini, I'm sure of that. And you have to remember that Sega still owns many of the signature Dreamcast properties like Sonic or Shenmue, so they could actually put them there instead of cucking their own fanbase out of the best titles because they don't own them like Sony did. Anyway, this is not handheld-related, so why did you post it here?

Ackshually ROG Ally's battery life sucks even more. Battery life on most x86 handhelds sucks because they use laptop CPUs, and those CPUs are not really meant to run games for hours with a medium-sized battery, those ULV CPUs are meant to have good battery life for things like watching YouTube or doing spreadsheets.

I wasn't going to say anything because I didn't want to look like a shill, but yeah, among handheld PCs (comparable devices), the van gogh in the deck is actually king of battery efficiency 12w and below and at parity with the best at 13 - 15w iirc. ARM still crushes it ofc, but the comparable devices are the other handheld PCs, not ARM handhelds. Just in terms of raw battery life while emulating, Deck gets better battery life than all the RK3566 devices emulating the same games due to a much larger battery. The rgb30 has a bigger 4100mAH battery in a screen smaller than the X55's 5.5", so that may be the one RK3566 device to buck the trend.

the resolution of the 3DS screens is way higher than the GBA and the filtering it does to stretch it looks kinda fuzzy unless you turn on perfect pixel mode which resizes it to the size of a gba micro, defeating the purpose of playing on large screens

I had the opportunity to get one for 75 EUR but in the end I decided it's not worth it because New 2DS XL can play way more stuff (both natively and emulated). The fact that they got rid of the GBA slot in the DSi models was a huge turn-off because games used that for unique mechanics like trading Pokemon between Platinum and Emerald. If DSi XL had a GBA slot, I probably would have bought it.

The 7840u in the Win Mini actually still has worse battery efficiency 10w and below. That said, it's def better at 15w (and can go higher, but I wouldn't want to as you're looking at battery life in the 1 hour range at that point), but you're trading ergonomics and better weight distribution for smaller size and better high-end power at that point I also prefer the d-pad/buttons out + sticks in controller layout of the Deck compared to the opposite on the Win Mini, but prefer both to any asymmetric layout. Also have to give credit to GPD for using a kino Vita style d-pad. The Win Mini is also going to be starting somewhere around $800 for the 7840u model vs $400 starting for the Deck not even counting the $330 refurbished models which is what I'd go for if I were buying a Deck today. The 7640u model is going to be around $700, but at that point you're getting Deck performance levels with worse battery efficiency. Ofc tbf, the Win Mini will also have a higher res screen and more storage in the cheapest 7840 & 7640 models compared to the cheapest Deck. Personally don't care about the storage since I have a 512gb SD card, but the better screen is nice.

Verdict: Deck still not btfo, maybe next year.

Had a bit of a realization a while back, why do chinese manufacturers still chase after high resolution displays for x86 handhelds? Anything above 1080p seems like complete overkill when the battery life is going to be less than 2 hours at 1200p, or god forbid 1600p. At least with 1080p panels you can lower the internal resolution to 720p and not notice much of a loss in detail due to the smaller screen size on a handheld, and 800p panels seem to be a sweetspot for maximizing battery life on these handhelds.

>>10198940
Its good, but it's very bulky. It's noticeable when you're traveling, the device and the case took up a fair amount of space in my backpack.
Its pretty comfortable for my gorilla hands though, its still very energy efficient at lower wattages even compared to current or upcoming handhelds so it's still a good travel companion, and you really won't find a better deal at $350 refurbished or $400 new for the lowest end model. Plus since it's basically a PC, you can buy a cheap dock off Amazon, hook it up and use it as a low-end desktop with great upscaling options, or for your entertainment center in your living room.

>why do chinese manufacturers still chase after high resolution displays for x86 handhelds?
they know consoomers in this niche just chase numbers and will purchase anything that’s the latest and greatest to share with their beloved fellow plebbitors
>Anything above 1080p seems like complete overkill when the battery life is going to be less than 2 hours at 1200p, or god forbid 1600p.
you just figured it out yourself – these people just buy them to consoom and don’t actually put that kind of usage into them. maybe the first two weeks while they tinker with settings, add their games, and take pictures of the title screens, but by then a new chinkheld has already been announced and preordered

Perfect shape, small size and lightweight, huge face buttons imo the best + the best inline shoulders, best screen I've seen on a 3.5" device, shockingly loud and nice sounding speakers for the size/price segment (tho I'm pretty sure 2S audio is the new champ). i even find the d-pad to be great and super tactile/precise feeling, but this seems to be really polarizing based on how sensitive your thumbs are to the "edge". why don't i hear more people talk about the RG351v? i got a cheap one off Temu and like it a lot. it's not pocketable but it's more comfortable than my v90 or miyoo mini. of course it can't compare to the DataFrog SF2000 which in my opinion is the best value in the market for how versatile it is- and only $20, you can have all the games ever made in your pocket for the price of 2 sandwiches! what a time to be alive! - but for how much i hear the Miyoo and RG35xx talked about, and all the other 'zontslop derivative knockoffs like Retroid2/3+, endless stream of Anbernic 3-4-5s, Aya Odin Steam PSP dadcore boomerchunkcore mainframes that might as well be barbells with how much of an exercise they give your forearms, i never hear the Anbergin rg351v mentioned? but for me really it's the DataFrog SF2000, the value just can't be beat. they make great gifts for the children in your life, and "failure-to-launch" grown-up children too! It depends on the game. As far as /vr/ stuff goes it's not going to put a strain on the battery life, all of the emulators you can use on the Deck aren't going to be particularly taxing and I've had success in playing different systems in emulation station for about 5-6 hours without charging. The issue really comes up when playing a game that's either gpu/cpu intense or a game that isn't optimized to run on a battery. Non-/vr/ but recently I've sunk a lot of hours into Cult of the Lamb and, even though it's a plain looking indie game it will attempt to use the max power on the Deck at all times unless you override it.
General rule for playing on the Deck is to go through the quick settings and manually set the GPU clock and TDP limits as necessary. Again, this is only really an issue for modern stuff so if you're only emulating you can expect a decent battery life out of it.
