I basically agree with you and it was my first console. It was always obvious to me that Nintendo games were more 'professional', and after I got a gameboy that was just plain as day, even their handheld games just felt more 'complete'. Sega was just never great.

Genesis games just never feel very well polished. Landstalker and Alisia Dragoon mentioned in >>10188794 are actually two great examples. There's something about their graphics that just look... off. They feel drab and generic. And the gameplay similarly just isn't great, it's all very rough around the edges. That's the closest I can come to describing it, I just get these low effort bootleg vibes from genesis games.

SNES was a horrible machine for beatemups and action games in general. Final Fight 1 and 2 were garbage compared to SOR. Final Fight 3 tried to improve the gameplay in order to finally compete against SOR, but the SNES just couldn't handle the game and the result was a mess filled with slowdowns.
I still prefer SOR2 (or SOR3) to Final Fight arcade or Final Fight Sega CD, it has betters gameplay, more weapons, more movements, more characters, enemies with a bigger variety of movements, a vastly superior soundtrack, more different obstacles...

Its a damn shame that we never got Crusader of Centy 2 and 3 on the Genesis, I'm sure more could have been done with the world.

The Sega Genesis/Megadrive was capable of playing Master System games, which were lower quality. Better quality than the NES but lower than the Genesis/Megadrive. The SNES was a more powerful machine overall but lacked the Genesis' superior audio chipset.

Between lower performance compared to the SNES/Super Famicom and maintaining backward compatibility with Master System titles, the uninitiated would certainly view the dual library as lower quality, despite many games actually having solid gameplay, let alone having much better soundtracks.

There was also slow update of the more advanced Genesis capabilities and some studios were still making games that were closer to Master System than what the Genesis could produce. Even Sega's studios themselves were guilty of this.

For example, take a look at the first X-Men title on the Genesis, which was developed by Sega, and then take a look at X-Men 2: Clone Wars, developed by Head Games. Difference in quality is night and day. Same goes for Streets of Rage 1. SOR1 (aka Bare Knuckle) came out 2 years AFTER Final Fight, so they were emulating that style but doing so on the lower end. However, SOR2 used more of the Genesis' capabilities, and pushed it even further with SOR3 (the latter two games were better in every respect to Final Fight's entries).

You could see the same slow performance uptake in other series for similar reasons. The Shinobi games, even Golden Axe got performance boosts with later titles compared to their earlier titles which felt like slightly upgraded Master System titles - if not being directly Master System titles themselves.

Also note that A LOT of SNES games utilized more pastel colors, including Final Fight, while games like SOR2 and 3 used much more vivid colors, giving SNES games their own cheap quality. (IE: Final Fight series, Pirates of Dark Water, Aliens vs Predator, etc) Pretty much baked into their system.
