I had NTSC-J one imported for Capcom fighting ports

My jock brother had one but he only owned four games:
>FIFA 97
>Madden 97
>NHL 97
>World Series Baseball 2
So no at the time I thought the Saturn was a lame sports game machine for knuckledraggers

I bought one once they went on discount in 1998. I got a saturn with all the best games for $100 aussie dollars. My mate also bought one but apart from the two of us I didn't know a single person with a saturn. The games were a lot better than what I had on N64.

>> No.10175274

Nope never knew anyone who had a saturn. However i did want one in late 95 but by 96 I felt the saturn was falling behind the psx

Yeah I got one around 1997 because they were being discounted and I wanted to play all those Sega arcade ports like Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtua Cop. I had a buddy who'd already imported one from Japan primarily to play fighting games and had a sizeable library of games for me to borrow. He'd previously had a Neo Geo AES but got sick of the high prices and then a Neo Geo CD but got sick of the long load times.

My cousin had one with the NiGHTS Sampler (not Christmas NiGHTS, the regular one) and one of the Street Fighter games, I want to say Alpha or Alpha 2 but I'm not sure

>>10175206
This is what most people had on it, it was popular for sports and fighting games

I had never even laid eyes on one in person until I got one off ebay a couple months ago

28 and from eastern Canada but I don't know a single soul who even thought of saturn let alone owned one around here

My GFs younger brother had one in 97-98. Their dad was a deadbeat and he gave the kid a Saturn in place of any kind of parental support or care. Only realized recently he must have gotten it for next to nothing when they were being blown out. Kid had Virtual Fighter 2 and Rayman. Also had the 3d controller. VF2 was good but we mostly played Genesis.

i don't know if it was even released in sweden, at least i can't remember it ever being advertised.
we were generally a nintendo country up until the ps1 thanks to bergsala having established nintendo's presence here since the game & watch.
looked up some old toy store catalogues from the mid 90's to verify, and the saturn is nowhere to be seen. you'd often see the PS1 being sold next to the Mega Drive and SNES.
would be cool if some other swede could at least confirm any saturn sightings.

One kid from neighborhood had one, with tomb raider, fighting vipers, wipeout and sonic jam. And some sports or demo sample.

It was 1996-1997 we had fun times with tomb raider, fighting vipers and sonic jam, but in 1997-1998 PSX took over and almost every kid on the neighborhood got a PSX. (Italy)

Not initially, as I had the original Playstation first as a Christmas present, but eventually it needed to be turned onto its side or upside-down in order to play games. At that point I decided to switch over and make the Saturn my primary system for multiplats. I remember getting specifically that model and those controllers, and in the same day my friends drove me around to sell those controllers for a single grey Japanese modeled one, then to another place to get it modded with a switch for different regions. I was so glad to have gotten into the Saturn, since everything was cheap for the system because no one wanted it. Of a friend circle of around 12 people, 5 of us did have the system, and it was always great in showing off what new or weird game we found at our bi-weekly gatherings. Of the same group of 12, only 4 had N64s, and Playstation count was at 7 in those days. To this day the Saturn is a top 5 most favorite console for me just because of all the clearance games I got and wound up loving.

Super power/play magazine covered Saturn. Also late sega force magazine had some saturn articles

The only kid i knew who had a saturn won it from McDonald's monopoly.

>> No.10175647

I knew one kid who had a Saturn, I think he also had a Playstation or an N64 too, don't remember which.

>> No.10175663

I don’t know anyone who had it. They just bought N64s. Saturn was out of date within a year. It needed a hot game like Mario 64 or Shadows of the Empire to sell systems. Saturn only had Panzer Dragoon, which was fun for 20 minutes. You needed “the next sonic” to sell this thing.

Yes, I did and I loved it.
Greatest console ever.
SOUL.
Peak Sega: AM2, AM3, Sonic Team and Panzer Team just cranking out one amazing title after the other.

I never saw one in my life. Never knew it existed until the 00's when I was learning about emulation.
I legitimately thought Sega skipped the 64 bit era and that's why the Dreamcast had such a huge marketing campaign and came out before the PS2 and Gamecube.

I can't be the only one who had this theory growing up

I had my cousins for a bit in the late 90s. Had a few early games like Virtua Cop, also a few demo discs but sadly not a lot of games for it. I got into it much later in 2016 and it became my favorite console of all time.

Same. As a kid, everyone at school had either a PS or N64. The Genesis was the 'Sonic console', we had no idea the SMS or Saturn even existed. I remember the Dreamcast being a big deal for a few months, then the PS2 got announced and the DC hype died overnight.

Sounds like most of you itt were either really young during the fifth gen or from countries where the Saturn wasn’t much of a player. I’m American and I was 13 in 1995 so I was well aware of the Saturn via gaming magazines. Personally I think it was generally more popular with an older demographic compared to the PlayStation/N64. Guys that were big into the arcade and import scene.
