I absolutely adore the Genesis Plus GX Wide core on RetroArch, my main issue with smartphones for emulation is that all of them go for a ultra wide resolution nowadays, so there'll be negative space no matter what you do, with you holding an already wide device, made even wider due to the controller, for very little screen... I usually just stretch it, but I know it's sort of a subpar solution... but this gives me proper 16:9, which looks pretty normal when stretched to fill up my whole screen, I'm really enjoying Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin due to how its so compatible, works perfectly... next to my device is my 1st Spider-Man toy, my grandpa gave it to me so I'd stop playing with girls toys as that pissed him off... good times, miss him.

The last flying sequence in Prison Ship in Rayman 2 Dreamcast port is unbeatable for me on my RG353PS. I don't know what is. Input lag due to emulation overhead? Tiny display making it hard to judge distance in 3D? Black crush on textures? Seriously, I don't know who thought it was okay to make a game where 80% of the color palette is black or very near black, it's unplayable in sunlight because you can't tell where the fuck you're going. Did anyone else complete this (or other ports) on a handheld? I beat the PC version when I was a kid. I'm very curious to hear your thoughts.

Well, scratch that. After watching a playthrough, it turned out I wasn't flying where I was supposed to. I kept going to a secret area and dying there, not knowing that the actual exit from the level is much closer than I thought. First game I've beaten on RG353PS and I gotta say it played quite well indoors. Couldn't play it outside due to black crush I mentioned previously, but I think that has more to do with the game than the handheld itself. 5th and 6th gen 3D platformers usually use much brighter color palettes than this game. Analog sticks in particular surprised me nicely because while the travel distance on them is low, they are also quite sensitive and precise. Flycast doesn't emulate this game perfectly, there are some missing and flickering textures in some places. Not a huge problem overall and the game is playable from start to finish as you see.

The Miyoo Mini Plus is pretty much the perfect device, for a certain intersection of needs. For a lot of people, nothing more is necessary. But where can we go from here? What can a hardware developer do to take this size and form to the next level? Could we see an OLED screen in one of these bad boys someday? The 2S screen is rated for 450 nits which is the same as the 3/3+ screen. I don't know what the 2+ screen was rated for, but the RP3 definitely had a brighter screen even when comparing them new.
