My theory is that they wanted it on much more powerful hardware.

They saw what Nintendo could do with the Nintendo 64 port of resident Evil 2. In fact, the biggest limitation on that port was the storage capacity of the cartridges. they had to make the cutscenes far lower quality to fit it. but everything else was fit onto a single cartridge with extra content. incredibly impressive.

and the GameCube outperformed the PlayStation 2 in terms of graphics.

But, having the best looking games for your flagship doesn't mean diddly dick when sales underperforms. and especially since the PlayStation 2 was the greatest selling console of all time, It basically destroyed that exclusivity.

So whatever it actually was, it couldn't topple sales numbers. And this was super important because Capcom just got out of their first low point in the RE series.

I disagree, I think part of their strategy was trying out RE online games with Outbreak and in their mind set they couldn't do both online and single player on the same console as one title could draw attention away from the other. So the gamecube got single player RE's and the PS2 got the experimental Outbreak games. Obviously it didn't work out and RE4 was ported to PS2 but I think that was part of the method of their madness. Also stop the plebbit spacing faggot.

Play 1, 2 and 3 on PC with REbirth unless you happen to have a Win95 machine around that can run them. Then just stop there because everything else is just bad, except outbreak but that's only good if you have friends and considering you are on /vr/ you don't.

CV and CVX, Dead Aim, 0, REmake, 4 and up are all just bad CV and 0 give you the illusion of a RE game but they play more like one of the 200 clones than a proper RE game. REmake is just inferior to the original in many ways, and again doesn't play like Resident Evil, 4 and up might as well not even be considered RE games.

Seemed like Nintendo and Capcom thought RE4 was going to be a big system seller. Maybe it would have been in 2001/2002, I don't know. But it fell into dev hell and they had to spin their wheels with a remake of a 5 year old Playstation game and a reboot of a scrapped N64 project that no one cared about. And there is no downsides, the PC ports of 1 and 2 are the best way to play them, 3 on the other hand does have actual issues and downsides, which is why the gamecube version is the popular choice. That said the downsides are you can't get cheats and you miss out on the special ending slides.

at that point they were probably tired of every game performing poorly because nobody had a fucking NGC so they ported 2 and 3 to make that a count of 5 and be done with the deal. Thus they were free and porting RE4 to PS2 was not a breach.

Every time RE4 gets a port, something new is broken

GC –> Wii — Lower polygon count inventory items from PS2 port

Wii –> 360 — Broken and missing effects, bad mapping conversion for ALL the models of the game, missing sound reverb effect.

360 –> UHD — Animation and sound issues, black pickup screen, bad optimization with lots of performance issues in some computers

The PS4 version is just copy-paste of the “HD textures option” from PC Ultimate HD. Only a few extra character textures were improved for PS4/Xone.

Also some enemies behavior issues if I’m not mistaken. But I’m not sure in which port…

Still aside of resolution the GC/Wii are the best versions. It has the best color palette and lightning and have bloom to the fire effects.
