How are those RPGs?
Same with all those action-"rpgs" like Willow, Faria or Crystalis. Why include those but not Adventure of Link?

Startropics is not an RPG no. Neither is Faria. Hillsfar I never heard of.

The others like Willow or Crystalis have RPG elements (exp, levels, etc) but yeah I wuold count them in a separate genre (a-rpg) aside from the turned based RPGs

If we're counting only turned based ones, I think it's about 100-120 by my count. But if we're counting A-RPGs then yeah it's probably about 200 if not more.

The rule is pretty simple, is it a publisher that published games on Famicom? If the answer is yes, then it's almost guaranteed it has at least one RPG.

idk what qualifies either. I know the Mexican Runner's beat all NES games challenge had a "you can only pick an RPG every 5 games" rule
due to the length of them but I don't know what was counted as an RPG there.

You're underestimating the post DQ RPG craze. Just Capcom alone has 3 turned based RPGs + at least 1 A-RPG.
If we include all types of RPGs, I'm sure the count can easily reach 200.

Japanese are addicted to RPGs like crack cocaine because the Japanese mind really really loves the idea of doing a monotonous repetitive task like grinding for points. The SNES and PS1 had an even higher percentage of RPGs, almost 30% of the entire library on both consoles.

Yeah strategy games aren't RPGs and shouldn't be listed. OP should exclude STR and at least include Zelda II as it counts as an ARPG.

I would have been happy leaving Times of Lore in Japan in exchange for Bard's Tale 2, or even just BT1 without a chopped up smaller ROM size.

They're missing some, such as Bard Tales and Deep Dungeon series (that's already 6 games). They probably don't have any FDS included at all as I don't see

I don't see SWAT either but maybe they don't count because IIRC there is no experience/levels, just turned based combat and ressource management

and if you're going to count Dragon Ball then Captain Tsubasa should be in there as well

I don't see Kawa no Nushi Tsuri either and that's definitely an RPG no question about it
