I love this game unironically.

The gameplay is hot trash but I've always been extremely fascinated by the story, its theatrical presentation, and amazing OST. I haven't played a single game that evokes the same apocalyptic feeling that this game tries to go for. The execution is just beautiful.

The fact that it's also a loosely tied to Ace Combat 2&3 (both in actual game development, but also in story and themes) is a massive bonus for me as well.

The developers of Ace Combat 3 made the game. AC3's full title includes Electrosphere, and Drakengard's development codename at the time was Project Dragonsphere. Ace Combat 3 (the uncensored japanese version obviously) actually has a lot of similarities to Drakengard storytelling wise.

Also (ending spoiler) Caim gets shot down by the protagonist of Ace Combat 2 in Ending E.

>> No.10143753

>>10143381
ending e is called "the end of dragon sphere" and it's inspired by the end of evangelion too. The pilot has the same call sign but it's not meant to be the same guy, the ending is set in Tokyo while Ace Combat has always been set in a fictional planet like Sky Crawlers.

Not necessarily. I find the Scarface 1 reference cool and its not like I'm SUPER invested in the idea that DrakeNier is loosely connected to Ace Combat... but not all Ace Combat games take place in Strangereal. Strangereal doesn't even become a thing until Ace Combat 3, and Ace Combat 2 didn't get retconned into being a Strangereal game until the 3DS remake came out years later.

At least nier has a semi competent battle system so when it makes you replay the same part of the game 3 fucking times is a little less of a slog.
You need to understand that Taro is the biggest hackfraud in this industry and automata was a good game despite his autism, not because of it.

the question here isn't whether AC1 and 2 are in Strangereal, but rather whether Scarface could be the JSDF pilot that downs Angelus.
It's fair enough to say that AC2 was only retconned to be part of the larger "Strangereal" setting later, but from the start all of the missions are taking place over fictional locations with names like "Twinkle Island" which don't exist anywhere on earth. So I don't think it can be interpreted as anything more than a nod to Ace Combat.

How much involvement does he even have with development anyway? Based on what I've read he seems to run really loose with what everyone else in the development team is doing.

This is literally common knowledge among AC fans considering the fact that later games still make callbacks to locations within AC3 and AC04. I don't know what to tell you, I guess you haven't actually played any AC games.

>>10145676
Ace Combat has a lot of fictional locations that are based on real ones, even in the Strangereal timeline, such as Farbanti which is some weird amalgamation of Los Angeles and other cities.

Like I said, I'm not super invested in whether or not Ace Combat is LOREWISE connected to DrakeNier, but its not like DrakeNier universe really cares about consistency in general. The Scarface 1 reference in Ending E is almost certainly just the old AC3 devs having fun. But this also brings up the fact that Taro is actually less involved with Drakengard's development than people think. If anything, the impression I get from the sparse Taro interviews about DoD1, he kinda doesn't care about the game and claims he halfassed the story. Which is funny because I think DoD1 and Nier Replicant are probably up there with his best works.

Anon, stop. Strangereal wasn't a thing until Ace Combat 5. AC04 had it's own world which you can see here in official artwork which looks nothing like the map in AC5. And originally, Usea was just a fictional continent in the real world north of Japan in the Pacific Ocean.

Because my initial post was about how I enjoy the thematic similarities between AC3 and Drakengard, and the small callbacks such as Scarface 1 in Ending E make Drakengard more memorable for me. I didn't even imply that Drakengard and Ace Combat take place in the same universe, yet you're attacking a strawman argument that I don't even necessarily agree with. I just corrected the anon's assertion that Ace Combat always took place in Strangereal when he pointed out that Ending E takes place in real-life Tokyo (which again, I never claimed that this Tokyo location was part of Ace Combat). The fact that you're so heated about me liking the small connections between Ace Combat and Drakengard is so bizarre to me when I didn't even claim that Ace Combat takes place in the DrakeNier universe.

I mean, yes?

I'm just discussing why I like a video game and you're interrogating me. If you have anything contrary in-game that shows AC3 doesn't take place in Strangereal, or that it has no connection to any of the future titles (like ACX which references AC3), then I mean, you're free to post it? I'm not going to prove a negative for you on a mongolian basket weaving forum. I'm just expressing why I like a game.
