/vr/ threads have expiration timers. I don't remember the exact amount of time, but when it's up, a thread no longer bumps. It was implemented both because /vr/ is a slower board and there was a period where a shitposter would post a bunch of trash threads and bump any that were still up in order to push most every legitimate thread on the board off the catalog.

>> No.10137113

>>10136952
The timer is one week I believe (Or at least that's the case for /tg/, I'm sure it's the same elsewhere). Even so, shitposters more often just spam new threads to push old ones off rather than bump dead ones.

It would be better for slow boards if longer threads were more resistant to being bumped off by new ones (Some sort of formula that weights newer threads with one or two posts for deletion before older threads with 100+ posts) and on really fast boards like /v/ that new threads were invisible and couldn't move until 15 minutes after creation or until janitor approval (So obvious spam threads would get caught in the post queue and deleted before they ever hit the board), but I think no one running this site has the know-how anymore to implement any changes to it.

>> No.10137120

>>10136952
And I very much doubt the janitors would want the job of manually approving threads, no matter how streamlined the process might potentially be.

>> No.10137137

>>10137120
It's more like an optional thing. If they do nothing, threads get posted as normal. If there's someone who's actively monitoring the queue because someone's flooding the board with shitpost threads, the janitor can cull them before they actually hit the board. It's not a silver bullet to the problem since there isn't always a janitor around nor are they always diligent, but when things are particularly bad they have a better tool to prevent it.

It's only really useful for very fast boards that get a thread every minute, something like /vr/ has threads posted so infrequently that you'll never catch anything when you're only on for an hour or two a week.

Trying to make GG Aleste 3 work on the sms. Having trouble because emuliscious doesn't like that game in sms mode but it will work on other emulators, I think its detecting the wrong mapper.

Anyway I changed some colours but you can't get into the game without pressing start so it loads on my flash cart on genesis, its just I can't get into the level to see what colours changed.

So if someone else want to try

Colours are stored in ram location c180
The colours from the first level are loaded from rom location around 58B04

Changing start to down on button 2 on the sms controller is supposed to be easy but i don't know how to do it yet. Pretty sure I know the approx location of the start button routine, just got to change it without messing up other things.

The homebrew method doesn't matter. If you can get the Homebrew Channel, you're good to go. I homebrewed my Wii with the Smash Bros. Brawl method over a decade ago and it's still good. Also, I highly recommend getting Wii component cables if you don't have them already. They're cheaper than the Gamecube ones and can even make VC games run at 240p. Wii doesn't have HDMI, so it's best played on a CRT for minimal input lag.

>I heard Nintendo can brick your console if they detect you have Homebrew installed
Not remotely true with the Wii. Online play almost always had hackers, and Nintendo shut down their Wii and DS multiplayer servers 9 years ago. People nowadays use a fanmade replacement called Wiimmfi to play Wii games online (details in the tutorial). But anyway, it's completely safe to have a homebrewed Wii connected online.

>> No.10160286

>>10160179
It's possible that any system update can brick any modded console. But Nintendo doesn't issue updates to Wii anymore as the online service has been discontinued.
As for a command to remotely brick a specific console? Not a single case has been reported since Nintendo started doing online. From DS through to Switch. Banning people from using online services is another thing, that's happened plenty. But again, not an issue for Wii.

Is making a custom expansion chip for a SNES cart possible? How do regular expansion chips communicate on the hardware level (i.e. how does writing to $3000-$3FFF in a game with LoROM mapping write to/read from the chip?). Is there any documentation around explaining this, or are the SNES dev manuals my best bet for learning?
Bear in mind that I'm not very knowledgable with hardware-related stuff, but I do know that the two side connector pins aren't helpful since they're not connected to anything (at least in the photo, which is the donor cart that I have).

SuperRT exists, so it must be.

The SA-1 conversion guy has source code, i would poke through that

I felt like clarifying in my post that SuperRT is "cheating", since it completely replaces the ROM chip rather than having its own separate chip that the CPU talks with.

This might be useful, but I'm still confused about the wiring. I'll take a better look through it anyway.

I have another question. Which pins on the cart would you need to breakout to use with a custom chip? Could you use a simple LoROM cart with no additional chips and still get it to work? All I need to know is how to map $3000-$3FFF or $6000-$6FFF to the special chip's memory.

anything that has disassembly out there, or any game with an text editor, but disassembles are better/easier to fit in more text easily. Or just the classic hex editor+table file method, assuming the game doesn't compress the text which is pain.

you can find a description of the cartridge connector and what the pins are intended to mean here
https://snes.nesdev.org/wiki/Cartridge_connector
i am certainly no expert but I think there is some simple address decoding logic done in the chips, so I'm not sure it would be as simple as just wiring it up, or (e.g.) attempting to hijack reads when both A13 and A12 are set.
It might be worth investigating a SA1 or GSU cart board to see how they are wired up, as they both map that range (SA1 for iram I believe and GSU for memory-mapped registers)
example: kdl 3 (https://snescentral.com/pcbboards.php?chip=SHVC-1L5B-20))

The term you wanna google is "Memory-mapped I/O Port"
