is this a good collection

It's not bad OP, contains most of the classic Sonic games and a bunch of other solid Genesis titles. Arguably better value than Sonic Origins, even though it's missing Sonic CD and I think Sonic 3. I usually recommend it to modern gamers who aren't really as tech savvy

Yes, it has the key games.

Just emulate. Make your own collection.

Super convenient for publishers that want to rip people off, though, thanks Steam!

>>10141091
why would you pay for roms?

>>10141237
this is emulation and they've stopped trying to hide it. the presentation is really nice bu it lacks some of the features of more recent emulators and doesn't have the kind of video shaders i like

Just buy console version.

None of the emulators on the emugen wiki actually work or are just libretro cores

>plays simple old games because too dumb for new ones
>also too dumb to use retroarch
lol lmao xD

>> No.10141492

>>10141353
RetroArch is very easy to set up anon, just download the core, scan your roms folder and it should be ready to go. Especially easy for cartridge games since you don't need a BIOS file

No it has a lot of input lag

Regardless of being good, it's just emulation with less features so you shouldn't buy it.

Eh. Assuming you are thinking of getting the Steam version, some things to note about it:
>Has VR support and a neat looking 3D room
>Includes JP versions for some titles
>Includes easy to access uncompressed ROM dumps in the files
>Some of the rom dumps aren't good (Ex: PSIV)
>You can no longer purchase Sonic 1, 2, or 3&K for the collection
>Some achievements require those Sonic games, so you cannot get all achievements on this collection if you care about that
>Doesn't include anything from the CD, 32X, or third-party games, emulator cannot run either CD or 32X games
>It does include mod support, which basically means you could run any Genesis game through the emulator via Steam Workshop, including third-party and pre-patched roms (But not anything from the CD or 32X, nor Virtua Racing since the emulator does not support the SVP chip)
>Emulator has some issues, namely high input lag and audio inaccuracies (most notable with games like Comix Zone)

The collection is an easier way to get into Genesis games, but there are far better emulators.

How do you set up the art for the rom images? I've been wanting to do this for my collection.

Bought this for switch a few years ago. Was disappointed about the absence of Ecco the Dolphin. Why isn't it there? Why do we need a dogshit Genesis port of VF instead of Ecco? Why Altered Beast over Ecco? Really stupid decision

>> No.10142027

>>10141921
Use a frontend like Launchbox or Playnite.
I use Playnite because it's free. By default it will use IGDB to fetch metadata, which gives nice clean looking posters, but I used a plugin for Launchbox DB which gives the actual box art for each console.

I have a few friends who I play with, it's great to play bonanza bros and to idle on in the background but with randoms the lag can get severe

>> No.10143081

I never bought this collection but I guess since I already owned all the genesis games on steam the retroactively changed my games to the ones on this collection?
I hope they didn't edit my save files or changed the games that I had already purchased.

i had a lot of input lag when i tried this. better to just use retroarch or kega/gens, retroarch has some pretty nice CRT filters too that go beyond just a screen warp and some black lines.
>>10141101
it has 3 on steam, though you'll need to find a key for the main trilogy. no idea about the console versions.
