3 was too much of an action game. RE should be slow paced with more puzzles and planning routes to avoid slow enemies and save ammo, not timing based dodge mechanics and tons of boss fights with ammo crafting. RE3 was the beginning of the end for RE.

No, it's the same as 1 and 2 where you have a single character who has a helper side character. There's no proper 2nd scenario. If there was, it'd be Barry running around likely with either Rebecca or some other local girl trying to find Jill and get a chopper out of there. It'd be kinda cool if Barry was always a few steps behind Jill, starting at her apartment, and moving forward, fighting Nemesis and some other bosses a few times, and has a new end-stage where he has to get a heli.

I mean RE2 has a total of 4 scenarios plus 4th Survivor, Tofu and Extreme Battle. But if you're talking about just one of RE2's main scenarios, they're not that long. I'm not a pro speedrunner and I finished the game in 1h30m. I don't think RE3 is much shorter

>> No.10144203

A giant avantage of resident evil 3 over 1 and 2 is that in Re 3 you can skip the boring "talks" with the characters pressing the start button, while in resident evil 1 and 2 you have to endure them.

Too bad when Capcom made resident evil 1 and 2 in "dualshock" versions they did not added that advantage of skip the boring "talks". the dual schok versions could have been better if they would have done that change.

REmake was the point of perfection for the whole RE series. It brought back the franchise back to horror, incorporated the best features of the previous games, and polished them to perfection.

>>10133792
It's not like you can't have action and horror. Zombie movies (the main inspiration for the series) always had action elements. Carpenter's The Thing has a lot of action and it's one of the best horror films ever made. If you mean action movie elements then I can see where your coming from, especially with CV:X, but it was really RE4 that really morphed the series from a horror franchise to a gothic themed shoot em up. 2 and 3 had action sequences here and there, but RE4 is just an action game from start to finish.

>> No.10145770

>>10133307
>RE should be slow paced with more puzzles and planning routes to avoid slow enemies and save ammo
Not only does RE2 have fewer puzzles than RE3, but the most optimal way of playing is to simply blast your way through the game because of just how much ammo you have. RE3 is the first game where you are actually punished for going gun crazy because of the Nemesis fights. If you actually try to kill everything in RE3, you will run out of ammo unlike RE1 and RE2.

And meanwhile all the remakes are outselling the originals while being quickly forgotten.

RE was designed at the time for the way people went through game to game. RE1? Your first horror flick, you dunno what you're in for, you're probably gonna get Barry/Rebecca and maybe even the other player character killed, but replays refine your work. Then the devs expected fans of that to go to RE2 which throws you into the thick of it with no orientation time for the controls or setup, and from there, RE3 is intended to make you as badass as Jill became for her continued survival and your continued play. The puzzles never go away during all of this, they just tightened up the combat and mechanics.

It's RE4 onwards that took a drastic shift less about a continuous series experience and more establishing a new standard, and then RE5 and 6 decided to keep escalating from there instead and everything went to hell.
