The actual fact is how the One model is better balanced in terms of shapes and composition, though both simply are designed around production limitations (or lack thereof) so there's no real "better" or worse design choices involved in either.

And the unarguable triumph from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint is the Dual Shock of course.

if you had any sense of design, you'd notice the original PS has a ratio of sides equal to 1.414:1. this is related to silver ratio, which has been used everywhere in Japan since long ago (picrel). moreover, the rectangle in the center also has this 1.414:1 proportion. this naturally looks balanced with a circle in the center.
PS One has a 4:3 ratio with rounded corners that looks like a piece of soap. it's not wide enough, so the circle in the center doesn't look balanced at all.

I don't like it, and this is not peak aesthetic. the console itself looks pretty boring, there isn't terribly much going on; the sole shtick of the console is the 2 thick bands (or whatever you call them) that go from joypad ports to the cart slot, and they're really just an embellishment, not something that was required by engineers and serving a real function. there's a clash between the square console and a round joypad (it's almost as if there was supposed to be a rounder version of the console). The button colors are 2x purple, 2x light purple; this is just dumb and it ruins the whole RYGB scheme of the original, which looked memorable and intuitive. and what is it with Nintendo and purple anyway?
all in all, it's not the worst, but it's clear that >>10128769 was king. though I'll say US SNES looks a bit more grown up.

Imho Game Boy had better aesthetic than any of the Nintendo home consoles. SEGA had them beat in that department

I've always love the heft of the Gamecube and Dreamcast. They're both very small, but solid feeling consoles. The PC Engine also feels very dense, like they couldn't afford a bigger shell.

It was one of the first console logos to begin with. The box played nicely on the whole RYGB palette and is still one of the most stylish and memorable console boxes to this day. This was before Microsoft stole the schtick for Windows. Playstation also took the palette for the logo, despite not having RYGB buttons, but rather blue—red—pink—teal.
Though I'll agree that the concept "buttons on the logo" doesn't work without color. The US also had this ""logo"" that appeared on the box and carts and had just 4 black circles. now that was retarded, yeah.

The US version wasn't on the top of the console, and that's all that matters. The logo on the Superfamicom is gay looking. Also more colorful does not equal better unless you're a fairy

the colors may not fit the grey shade perfectly though, they work better on white. this worked pretty well on DC and Xbox, as well as X360. if you're gonna claim THAT was gay, you're trying way too hard and probably desperately hiding your own gayness.

The white Saturn is all nice looking until that thing yellows, then it looks like some shit that smokes 8 packs a day.

The asymmetry, collision of round and boxy elements, the red and green leds, sliding doors with hidden inputs, and motorized disc drive door makes it seem premium. The aesthetics alone was why I had it in the first place.
