Just finished Altered Beast for the first time with default settings (I’ve beaten it before on normal and hardest difficulty but with five lives and extra health bars). Overall I found the gameplay to be addicting. Have any of you guys played Altered Beast, and what did you think of it? Would you consider it a hard game? It’s pretty fucking short, only taking about 10 minutes to play.

Altered Beast is a shitpost in video game form
it almost feels like it was never intended to be taken seriously, but it's hard to say for sure. all I know is that it's silly and fun

Yet somehow two buddies punching things as they compete to get massively buff and then transform into a wolf and shoot fireballs at the devil

Somehow it works. A classic. Not a good game yet somehow a must play and still fun to plow thru with a friend once every 5 years. Only nostalgia days will appreciate probably.

I'm pretty good at games but for some reason this took me many weeks to beat, I find it much harder than golden axe even now. I think its good, its a lot more faster and responsive than the older 8 bit games like double dragon and the parallax looks very good especially for the time, the pc engine has better looking sprites but they had to sacrifice the background a bit. Its a good starter game.

play the pc engine hucard (CD is a little easier) version for extra challenge. it's pretty difficult

>when you get hit once, you'll usually take damage 3 times instead
>bosses have a shitload of HP and take several minutes to die

they do give you 3 total continues, but you'll end up using a full one on the 2nd boss anyway

CD version fixes the damage issues but bosses still take a while to die
