Do you own a backup copy of the same console in case something happens to one of them? If so, how many do you have and how many would you recommend keeping due to issues with aging or a specific issue with certain models of said console?

I generally keep 3 per console, but I only have real hardware for Famicom, PC Engine, and Genesis so everything can be stored pretty easily.

No but I do it for certain games, one disc is license for coomlecting and another one is pirate version for hardware tests and shit.

I think I own about 5 copies of Sonic Heroes for various systems. I just like the boxes.

I have both models of most Sega systems (Master System, Mega Drive, Mega CD, Saturn). Not for backup sake just because I like the aesthetic differences between the revisions. Also being in PAL region I keep one stock and one modded for 60hz

i don't have any backups for mine, i've never really ran into any issues with consoles that I've owned in the past though. all of mine held out and never just died randomly like some peoples'.

but i did lose them in other ways like through moving or when my younger siblings who were toddlers at the time poured water into the sega saturn cd drive.

Have
4 Genesis
3 Nes
3 Snes
3 T16
Have 3 different places setup with an extra genesis for 32x/CD with msdexp/MegaSD. I use everdrives so it was easier to take the cart than unhook a console. Consoles are relatively inexpensive right now vs games. Other consoles I only have 1 of that I don't play as much. So main setup has 1 of every one I have. Nes/snes/gen/t16 and small crt at my desk and bedroom.

I don't have enough space for that and not paying rent is just too attractive to change that.
The only failure I've really had was the SATA adapter in my PS2 Network adapter, so the only modern part of it.

I gave all of my consoles to a collector friend of mine because I know he'd take much better care of them. I just kept my Gameboy.

No, that's retarded. If anything happens to my consoles then I'll just repair them.

>> No.10121523

i store my consoles in vacuum sealed baggies whenever i'm not playing them. i also put them into aluminum lined cardboard boxes to keep radiation out. same with my games.

I still have my childhood SNES, Genesis Model 1, and PS1, and recently (last year) acquired a Genesis 2 and a PSOne. I got a RetroDuo in 2010 and an FC-16 Go the following year, not as "backups" though, I feel like that's kind of obsessive. At least buy different models and not the same exact one

My thing is, I have an AV Famicom and those use to go for pretty cheap (sub $70). Now it seems like some youtube retard has gone off about them, as they seem to be close to $100 for one now. I got mone for about $50 to $60ish a year ago and only want a backup AV Famicom since that is the only Famicom that can do composite. Sure, I could get an NES, but I have the Famicom Pro Everdrive and the NES has the issue of having it's pins "break" because the design was retarded.

You could get a regular Famicom and AV mod it. I have the AV Famicom unit myself but I'm considering getting an AV modded original for the microphone.

No but I do have an extra/modded PS2, Xbox, Wii, and Switch.

Yes but only because somebody gave me a PS1 for free and my genesis I got for like $5 with a very very lucky ebay auction. Otherwise emulation is my backup system

>> No.10124042

Yes, a lot, but classified into 3 categories:
Machines for the collection, generally complete in box and used a minimum to ensure their condition.

Gaming machines, which have often already undergone major maintenance and mods.

Stock machines, often acquired for free or cheap.

Stock does not prevent the need for maintenance, such as replacing capacitors in consoles where they have failed (Game Gear, Nec GT, etc.) or in very old consoles.

I only have one of each console. When they all die I'll just get a mister or something.

Maybe you should just repair it and try to fully appreciate what you have, coomlector

not a single one of my consoles has ever broken.

>> No.10125718

Yes, but it's pretty much impossible to find cheap consoles nowadays.
I'm a retard and ended up messing a bunch of consoles doing mods, so I had to get new ones.

I am glad you understand my predicament where repair services are unavailable. The only systems which I don't have a backup for are the 3DO, Playstation TV, and WiiU. Fortunately, nothing has happened to all but one but it would still be sad to lose any other one. I got some original Xbox consoles which everyone here keeps saying to remove the clock capacitor, but my studio does not have much ventilation for my first attempt at desoldering plus I still have to save up to get the tools/materials. The one that died on me is my original 1001 Playstation, which was a prolonged death being sideways and upside-down, but I fortunately have a couple One models and a 5501. I still kind of prefer the 1001 model just as I am more used to seeing the RCA jacks on the back.

Only one console I ever had died on me. My family's Super Nintendo purchased in the summer of 1992 simply stopped working around 2008 or so. I didn't really care because it was one of those models with the plastic turning yellow over time.
