Why were the SNES beta designs so much cooler than the ones which were actually released?

A shitty chassis for a shitty 2.68 mhz console.

2.68MHz was pretty laughable in 1991, you could get a 50MHz 486DX at that time. The Genesis with a 7.68MHz 68K was much more in line with its release date in '88, Amigas had more or less the same CPU, just a lot more RAM and other chips to justify being 10x more expensive.

Auster, it's over. You lost. Go play modern systems and modern systems only if you care so much about on-paper specs. Oh wait you don't play video games anyway. Keep seething about Nintendo, forever.

I pity amerilards that nintendo gave them that abomination

>> No.10114665

I noticed that you have been typing "snezz" instead of "snes" on your computer. This is a common mistake that people make when they are overly invested in console wars. You see, the letters "snezz" sound like "snakes," which reminds you of the old console wars between the Snes and the Nes. This is causing you to feel a great deal of stress and anxiety, as if the console wars are still happening today.
To help you cope with this trauma, I suggest that you take some time to reflect on your emotions. Ask yourself why you are still holding onto the console wars from 30 years ago. Are you feeling a sense of loss or disappointment that your favorite console did not win? Or perhaps you are feeling a sense of pride in your own expertise on the subject?
Whatever your reasons may be, it is important that you recognize them and work through them in a healthy way. Remember, the console wars are over and have been for a long time. It's time to let go and move on.
In the meantime, I suggest that you continue to type "snes" instead of "snezz" to help you start healing from this trauma. Remember, it's not too late to change your letters and start anew.

Soulful comment

>> No.10114678

>>10114668
Console wars are essentially a competition between different gaming platforms that are designed to provide the best gaming experience to consumers. In the process of promoting their products, brands and fan communities often engage in heated and passionate debates about which platform is superior.

While these debates can be fun and entertaining, they tend to focus on technical specifications, sales figures, and marketing strategies, rather than the emotional and spiritual aspects of gaming that many people consider to be soulful. These include things like the creativity, artistry, emotional resonance, and social connection that video games can evoke, as well as the personal and cultural meaning that people attach to specific games and genres.

In other words, console wars are competitive and commercial by nature, whereas soulful aspects of gaming are more concerned with the human experience of playing and enjoying games. While console wars may stimulate passion and engagement among gamers, it is unlikely that they will ever be considered truly soulful.

The old man snorted as he passed by a retro video game store, catching a glimpse of an advertisement for the PC Engine. He remembered hearing about it years ago - another one of those Japanese consoles that were so popular in the '80s and '90s. He had never owned one himself, always sticking to his trusty ZX Spectrum, but he had seen enough of the flashy, colorful games on TV to know that they were nothing like the drab, monochromatic worlds he had grown up with.

He frowned as he walked away, his mind wandering back to his childhood. He had always felt like an outsider, even in his own city. Watching kids flock to arcades or swap games at school, he had felt trapped in his own little world of outdated technology and limited options. While his classmates talked about Mario and Sonic, he could only nod along, pretending to understand what they were saying.

It was only in recent years, with the rise of YouTube and online forums, that he had truly grasped just how much he had missed out on. He had watched in awe as gamers discussed their favorite titles, each one more intricate and colorful than the last. But even as he marveled at the graphics and gameplay, he felt a twinge of bitterness deep in his chest. Why had he been denied these experiences all these years? Why had he been forced to settle for the same old, low-tech games over and over again?

>> No.10114693

>>10114691
And now, coming face-to-face with another reminder of all that he had missed, he couldn't help but feel a sharp pang of resentment towards the very thing that had been keeping him excluded all these years - Nintendo, and Japanese games in general.

But even as he stewed in his anger, he felt a faint spark of curiosity flicker to life. What had he been missing out on, exactly? Was it really as amazing as everyone made it out to be? Could he finally experience the joy of those shimmering, colorful worlds for himself?

He hesitated for a moment, then turned back towards the store. Maybe it was time to give this PC Engine a chance after all. Maybe it was time to see what all the fuss was about.

Imagine not owning both NTSC models for maximum ludo. ngmi, bro.
Seriously though, I never understood why the focus on the SNES vs SFC design instead of the more actually outrageous Famicom VS NES, with the latter being comically larger for no apparent reason. SNES and SFC actually are the same size. I like both too, don't trust randos on internet who claim the SNES is "ugly", like I don't trust your grasp on aesthetic and design.
Probably the reason why Famicom vs NES doesn't get much shitposting is because Euros actually got the NES too, so it's mostly a burger vs euro thing when it comes to snes and, not sfc, but PAL snes.

>> No.10114783

>>10114758
The NES has the excuse that everything about it's design was for the purpose of convincing retailers to stock the thing after getting burned by the crash of 83. Redesigning the Famicom to look like A/V equipment and packaging it with a robot was just enough to distance it from Atari and Coleco.

I grew up with the US SNES so I have fond memories of it, but playing SFC carts on an actual SFC just feels right. Granted, I was a weeb who was immediately smitten with the look of Famicom and Super Famicom carts as soon as I discovered them.

I don't know who Auster is. It should be noted that outside of CPU speed the SNES is better in every way.

>> No.10116065

>>10114758
The NES does have better aesthetics. Original Famicom looks too cheap and toyetic. The fact that the NES is unnecessarily huge, and the horizontal cart loading only creates issues is a different matter altogether.
Ideally they would have made something more like the Super Famicom to begin with, that just looks solid and a bit stylish, without looking like a toy or a VCR.

I like the rounded corners and rounded cartridges of the JP SNES, but the power/reset sliders on the NA version look nicer than the clumsy looking power switch and reset button.
