What is your favorite loadout in Star Parodier? I love PC Engine cause he's the cutest, and while I feel like the Homing Missiles (yellow) trivialize the game I think I might prefer the CDs (blue powerup). I've played this game quite a bit lately but I haven't gotten around to a serious run with Bomberman -- from what I gather, he's pretty OP. Also, for PC-Engine do you prefer the shield (S) or the spinning things (P)? I've always used the shield and slept on the Ps but I feel like I'm probably missing out.

Also, general cute-em-up thread, since there probably isn't enough to discuss regarding strictly Star Parodier.

Only finished the game on easy and normal difficulties through PSP collection, but I recall PC Engine's CD attack being the strongest, but also had less coverage more you upgraded it.

Also I couldn't beat the game on its hardest difficulty settings because the snowman fight kicked my ass hard.

I've been using the CD attack at one level below the max, IIRC. It seems to be the only time the power-downs are useful. I figured I'd graduate to hard mode once I'm done beating the game with each weapon with each ship. The red weapon for PC-Engine sucks hard. I think Stage 6 is probably my favorite track, if not the final boss music: https://youtu.be/PzXhgfQzYIY

unplayable since they decided to make literally every aspect of the game in Japanese.

Mr. Heli was always my favorite. another pc engine classic

fantasy zone is cool too, along with the genesis sequel. i never got far in the master system sequel, the levels are too large and bosses get nutty

I think I usually just stuck with the Paro-Ceasar but the PC Engine is fun to look at. This game was surprisingly easy for me, was expecting something closer to Parodius for obvious reasons. Excellent soundtrack though, probably one of the better smups on TurboGrafx-CD

I didnt think it was tough either, and I suck at shmups (although I haven't played hard mode yet). Parodius kicked my ass until I ended up at Star Parodier, lol. I'd like to eventually work my way back to it as I really like the art of the series.

Language is basically irrelevant for this game. I have 0 experience reading runes and I play it all the time. And if you really wanted to, there's a mostly-complete English patch called Fantasy Star Soldier.

I'll have to try it. Thanks anon. I love Fantasy Zone too!

You could try the Twinbee games if you like Star Parodier, they're also designed for younger audiences so they're not as brutal as Gradius or Parodius. Honestly really prefer these cute 'em ups over a lot of the more popular shmups. Keio Flying Squadron 1 and the Cotton games are also pretty fun imo.

I remember liking the Bomberman ship the most last I played it.

Twinbee and Parodius are basically peak cute'em up. Yahho! might be the very best.

I've tried Twinbee a couple times but I always end up not liking it. I feel like I should love it though -- I'll probably just keep trying it til it clicks.

What's the best Twinbee to start with?

Detana!! TwinBee (arcade, X68000, PC Engine, Saturn) or Pop'n TwinBee on Super Famicom

I always chose the Bomberman ship. But the PC Engine ship is adorable too. I never fully beat the game though, but got more than halfway through (I’m not that good at shooters, I think I got stuck at the snowman boss if I remember right).
I was never really into shooters, but the few I like are all cute em’ ups (this game, Parodius, and Fantasy Zone). I think Fantasy Zone II W is my all time favorite, along with Sexy Parodius.

I was just trying to play Popn Twinbee again and I think I might be too stupid for the bell mechanic. It feels like there's way too much going on at once all the time. I really want to like it cause it's so cute and the bosses are really cool, but I don't know if I like managing my powerups to this extent.

I started with Twinbee 3DS. Not the best way to start but it did the job. The 3D effect was really cool
