ITT: Talk about great deals you've found on retro Vidya and share your stories.

I recently bought 4 "as-is" GameCube games for $85 all of them were heavily scratched but ultimately worked. (One of them was Pokemon Colosseum which alone is worth about $100)

A untested (broken) infrared receiver and controller for Mega Drive £18. Mode button was completely broken and someone had attempted repairing it in the past awfully (picrel) completely severing the x-y-z button traces. Fixed by exposing some trace and soldering a wire but the mode button is gone for good
Boxed Gunstar Heroes (no manual) Mega Drive for £12. Local listing, the best deal I've got this decade. Takes me back to 2009
Keio Flying Squadron Mega-CD CIB with a heavily faded front cover for £100. Not a great deal but it's one of my favourite games so I'm happy to have it

>> No.10094860

Got ff 9, ff tactics, gta 2 and mega man x4 last week for $5 each. Nothing major but it's hard to find anything at goodwill now so I was happy.

Eh my best find happened like 3 years ago, but some mexican dude sold his daughter's gba with games and it had pokemon leaf green, also I paid like exactly what a standalone gba is worth.

I can't find any good deals now. I live too rural. Last thing I got good was every resident evil and metroid game for around $100 when covid started. I doubt I'll ever get better than that.

Recently? Got a boxed 32X Afterburner for 30 from an online auction because some protosludge tried crudely cutting off the sides of the cart to I can only guess, try and stick it into a normal genesis. still works fine.

Earlier in the year got a boxed Odyssey from a little church flea market.

Traded two game displays I had from when I worked at gaystop for a Sega X'Eye.

Last year I got Bomberman 93 Special Version from an online sale because the store had it listed as the normal edition for around 12.

Use cleanrip on a Wii if you want to check the discs don't have any issues. Just cause the games boot up, doesn't mean the discs are fully functional.

Lurk on ebay and Facebook Marketplace more. Deals pop up. (pic related)

Speaking of which, I paid $120 for 40 some N64 controllers on ebay and 6 of them were Hori controllers, 4 of which are pictured here.

Only seeing occasional PC CDs or DVDs these days. Last good purchase I got was silent scope for the xbox. Only see maybe shit like FITA for seventh gen console NEVER see PS1 now PS2 becoming very rare as is XBox and non sportball 7th gen, NEVER see 2600 or other carts. Not that long ago you would always find a few games mixed in with used DVDs or whatever but all that's over. prices in 'retro games' stores are absurd even for 7th gen

I recently played Gunman's Proof in n emulator and it was a lot of fun so after I finished the game I decided to add it to my collection. I could only find a few copies for sale and they were all selling for nearly $300 which is way more than I was willing to pay. I set some notifications, and a few days ago I got notified of a new listing being added. I grabbed the game for $120 literally only a minute after the listing went live. It just came in the mail and I opened it up and confirmed it's real (not that I had any doubts, but I always check just in case).

It's still expensive but $120 is a way better price than what it normally goes for. I'm happy.

It depends. Most of my deal hunting is idly checking sales sites on my phone and getting lucky that I happen to find something amazing. Now, if you're actively driving around to game stores, thrift shops, Goodwill, yard sales, and estate sales? Yeah, you're probably better off taking an extra shift or whatever, because for all that gas, time, and headache, once or twice a month you might find the $150 game for $5, but most of the time you're finding shit for ebay prices or having to drive somewhere at 4AM to camp out to beat the twenty other Craigslist vultures trying to snipe the good deals by hoping that grandma clearing out her son's old games doesn't realize that the loose Earthbound cartridge in the bottom of a box of sports titles is worth a couple hundred instead of $10.
