Been playing Rayman 2 for Dreamcast. Really surprised how well its aged for a 13 year old game. Good and useful strafing, tight controls, precise jumps for a 3D game of its time, and some beautiful environments.

The new games are a good, fun, more fast version of the first game, but I'd like to see a new 3D rayman. How was Hoodlum Havoc?

rayman 3 was my favourite rayman

>> No.1009259

The problem with Rayman was the lack of lives once you reached the later tougher stages. Plus you have a limited number of continues.

Granted you can always go back to the first stages to grind levels but GOD was that a pain!

Also going back into previous stages to find all the cages was not fun somehow. Kinda odd, some games DO manage to make "backtracking to previous levels" fun but I never found it fun in Rayman.

Should play the Saturn of PC version instead.

As far as I'm aware the backtracking to previous levels for the cages was pretty much only if you missed them. There are VERY few levels where you can't do something until you get farther in the game, and those levels do make it fun to go back because a new area is unlocked.
Mostly speaking of Rayman 2 as I played that extensively and played Rayman 1 a bit, but really not much at all.

>> No.1009607

>>1009591
Hmm no in Rayman 1 there are tons of cages you can only get once you have the power ups later on. And there is hardly any new area unlocked or very small bits

Decent game, but not nearly as good as 2, which is why people put it down so much.

>> No.1009636

>>1009591
On the first game, I assure you that you will NOT find all the cages on the first run, even counting the ones that are impossible without later upgrades. Many of them are well hidden and hard to reach.

>>1009259
>some games DO manage to make "backtracking to previous levels" fun
The thing with Rayman is that many of said levels are pretty hard, and the way cages are hidden (invisible until you reach a certain point, and then you hear some sound which tells you something spawned) is pretty tedious.

>> No.1009641

>>1009636
And if you ignored the cages the first time around thing they were optional, you have to replay the entire game again. And it is on limited continues. The cage thing really was the only bad thing about the game.

>> No.1009906

I can only play this game without cheating until I get to the art levels. That part where you have to jump in between 50 million colored pencils is infuriatingly difficult. I think I got to that viking lady with the rolling pin once, but I was lucky.

I dont get Rayman.

Slow, floaty, no feel platforming that was a step backwards from just about every 16bit platformer and released on the playstation. Why does it have a following?

Maybe some people liked the art, but how hard is it to animate limbless creatures? Laziest design ever.

Easily the worst playstation game I played when I was young.

i liked it.. heh funny story:
i saw the commercial when it first came out and thought "AW COOL A NEW RAYMAN!" So I bought it for GBA instead of getting a home console version. Turned out like an updated Rayman 1 (which I also got the GBA port of after enjoying the PSX version.) I was cool with it, but slightly disappointed with how companies alwys seemed to downgrade gba ports... GODDAMN THOSE FUCKING BUMPER KART FROM HELL STAGES JESUS CHRIST AAHHHHH!! WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?!
Later I got it for ps2.. It was nice..

I was stuck in that part too. You only need to run, and nothing else, pretty easy unless you have to find the hidden cage there.
The Space Mama level (the one with LODS-A-TACKS) needed some precision.
