Thoughts on emulation consoles like the Super Console X et similia? Going ti buy one right now.

>> No.10091923

If it's not x86 it's bad for emulation

The ideal system for emulation is an x86 PC with an AMD GPU running Linux and Retroarch, with the most accurate cores/settings, CRT shaders, and a 1440p or 4K monitor so 240p and 480p content integer scales into it.

There's plenty of "mini PCs" with AMD CPU/integrated graphics.

2D games run perfectly fine with these consoles and even some 3D ones, you don't need all that shit.

Yes, you do.
If you're going to do this do it for real, anon.

They are just basic TV boxes with Emulation Station installed on them. You could "make" one yourself with a generic TV box and an SD card. There's a video about it somewhere but can't remember where

Personally if it's just for low end consoles you could just use the Walmart stick and download RetroArch on that... Very easy to set up and will save you like $60-$80

Gay shit for low iq zoomers, which I’m assuming OP is due to even considering this. Probably looked up setting up something like a batocera box and said wait this isn’t like the App Store on my iPhone what’s something easier

Because free open source drivers on Linux compared to a proprietary out-of-tree kernel module controlled by Nvidia, not necessarily because the Vulkan or OpenGL drivers are going to render content better,

>> No.10091964

>>10091949
It's not, especially if you want to emulate non retro consoles, which is the only thing that gives a better experience with emulation vs. using the original hardware.

Do you really think you need an AMD CPU to emulate Super Mario Bros 3?

Yes. As an APU or paired with a decent GPU.
Or the Nvidia equivalent.
Either way a PC that has enough power for runahead and CRT-Royale/Guest-Advanced.

By the way if all you're shooting for is emulating Super Mario Bros. 3 when you say "2d games" you're not doing this for real.

SNES needs decent horsepower for runahead. And shaders are a requirement to see the games as they are supposed to be seen unless you can output 224p composite to a CRT.

If a system doesn't have its own natively run games, it can't be considered a real system

>> No.10094153

>>10092984
The question is if it has the grunt to power CRT-Royale or CRT-Guest-Venom-Advanced. These are the two shaders that do the best job of simulating a real CRT.
Every other option is a compromise tbqh.
They are both quite demanding.

And then there are questions of whether this system can support runahead with the SNES9X current and Final Burn Neo cores. I would consider this a deal breaker if it wasn't present.

The roms don't work half the time morons, watch a few youtube videos of these changboxes like the Kinhank trash, the emulation is terrible and half of the roms are bootlegs in chinese, don't work, have insane slowdown on hardware that should otherwise be capable, etc.

I know you're paying the morons in here to shill your garbage chang, but you're not convincing anyone. Use promo code nigger to get 20% off your next kinhank ripoff.

I watched dozens of video of these Kinhank boxes and yes, there are surely flaws, but most people are actually enjoying these devices. I got one myself and it is functioning fine, I use it to play old SNES, Atari and Sega games and it works very good for the price. In general there are absolutely no problems in emulating 2d games.
