I flashed JELOS and tried the emulators there. No difference. Mupen64-Plus has no text in the menu, so I didn't even try with that one. PARALLEL has the same bugs, including the game breaking one. I think all of those emulators are forks stemming from a single code base and that this issue was present in its ARM version for a long time now. It would explain why you got that bug on Vita, which is ARM too. I guess no one really tested this game on ARM far enough into the second level to notice. This is what I get for buying ARMshit.

The Dreamcast version seems to run better than the N64 one, weirdly enough. Dreamcast is 60 FPS locked in levels while N64 had drops. It's also bug-free, aside from some flickering on the ground in some parts. It's crazy that a 6th gen console is easier to emulate than a 5th gen one, Dreamcast has twice the CPU speed of N64. ARM N64 emulators are laughably bad.

Just got my MM+. The vertislop poster was right; shit’s terrible-feeling to hold, and my thumb is straight-up blocking the speaker when I try to hold it in a half-comfortable position. And while I can play PS1 without analog sticks, it DEFINITELY feels like the devs back then saw stickless controllers as an afterthought.

I avoided the horizontal handhelds because I wanted GBA nostalgia and something that felt different from my Steam Deck, but fuck, this is different in the worst possible way. I’d probably go for the RK2023 if I had another chance to pick one.

Alright, got home from work and tested Rayman 2 on my Odin Lite. My to-go choice there for N64 is usually Mupen64Plus-Next GLES3 and it also didn't display the text in the menu (might be related to hi-res mode being on by default? Idk), so I didn't bother to check any further and decided to use Mupen64Plus FZ. With FZ, Murphy's tutorials do show up and the switches can be triggered. Turns out to be an ARM-specific (not x86) issue affecting both Rayman 2 and Goin' Quackers, but it appears this hasn't been fixed yet with any of the RetroArch cores. Which, again, is weird given it was fixed in both FZ and DaedalusX64, the latter being a speed-focused emulator.

They use tank controls. This means a character running forward will move forward regardless if the camera changes. Moving the left or right on the dpad shifts your character's direction. A decent dpad will make you run while turning in any hallway with a fork. (Vita, rs97, rg300, 3ds) Running while turning is harder to do with a less than decent dpad. (2ds, razor kishi) I'm not sure why rgc started the contra test meme.

Just got it, out of the box you have just one screen visible at a time and you can switch between top and bottom screen with L2/R2. I think there's an option buried in settings to have them side by side, or stacked vertically (with a lot of empty space on the sides).

So far I checked FFTA2 and Pokemon HeartGold. They seem to run close to full speed, but sound breaks randomly and starts crackling from time to time. I guess this is playable if you turn off the sound and game doesn't display too much info on the second screen, otherwise you'll be changing screens a lot and that's not nice experience.

Anyway, Koriki doesn't seem stable and polished enough at the moment for me to justify keeping it. GarlicOS is next, and I think I'll stick with it for the time being.

Those plums move inverse to the direction Rayman shoots in while he stands on them, and the level is designed in such a way that rapidly changing shooting direction is often necessary. temu has resellers so some of the prices are inflated and “reduced” to make it look like a deal, but they don’t actually have a good selection of WORTHWHILE devices on there for sale, which is why you predominantly see people pushing this route specifically for the miyoo mini plus and rg35xx

the other thing is since these devices are being sold by resellers in a marketplace format, sometimes the seller(s) are out of stock and disappear from searches, thus looking like nothing people are talking about. most of the time the same seller or a new one pops up with similar pricing if you wait a few hours, but you have to know that ahead of time obviously

i hope you have another phone or a friend/gf/family member whose phone you can use to try again, cause those impulse-buy coupons expire quickly and thus if you don’t preemptively scope out what you’re buying, you effectively waste them. i made use of this and got myself a mm+ for dirt cheap a few weeks ago so i could name the seller I bought from, but they might have disappeared already and been replaced with another. there’s a ton of the cheaper anbernig vertislops at most times, but I wouldn’t get any of them

I wouldn’t do this since I hate the available colorways, but if you’re not picky about the color, for sure the single-best device you can get on temu with these coupon deals is the rg505, but only available in turquoise and yellow last I saw. This is a super solid t618 device with a literal psp vita oled screen that doesn’t get a lot of love probably because of its colors, but there is a grey/retro one that I wish was available on temu

next would be those snes controller 353 devices in terms of worthwhile steals

>> No.10093791

>>10093785
I haven’t resorted to this method yet, but I understand temu also has some coupon for making a $100+ purchase, but the trick is you can push through an order and immediately cancel it and still keep the coupons. I don’t think the coupons you get are any better/different from the first-time buyer one though – $25 off a $50+ order – but like I said I haven’t tried it myself

good luck anons, the coupons are good enough that I’m contemplating just getting another mm+ just as a backup unit if the grey rg505 doesn’t pop up. I would immediately pull the trigger on an rg405m if they wound up on temu, but only the cheap-ass anbernigs seem to make their way on that platform. I have not seen a single retroid pocket device, but you can tell hella people are searching/trying, as the search bar auto-suggests it.

The RG35XX is slightly longer which makes it a tiny bit more comfortable to hold. MM+ has a slightly larger battery and WiFi for retro achievements. If you have an SD card, you're basically golden for emulation. The only problem is when you try PC games, you'll only ever have enough space for basically one game on average with some AAA games not being able to fit unless again, you put those games on SD cards larger than the 64 GB but you will suffer some but not a lot of performance degradation doing that.

I've only used the base OS so far but the sound emulation seems awful on the handful of games I've tested across GBA, PS1 and MD via retroarch. GBA in particular seemed worse than the others.

One number (average FPS) is not really enough to capture the whole picture. Two systems can have the same average FPS, but if one has lots of short FPS dips 1% of the time and the other system doesn't, it's enough to affect your gaming experience. For emulation, it makes no difference, but for big PC games that have to read and write a lot to the disk during gameplay, faster drive can give more stable experience.

Asked on /v/ but didn't really get any help. You guys are usually the most brutally honest you can find easily so I want to have a breakdown of the Analogue Pocket after all the patches if it's worth it or not. Should I just wait for a potential revamp of it from them or have they not said anything about that?

If I'm looking to get this for GB and GBC primarily is it worth going for? I also like the fact you can take native screenshots. I don't want to mod an original GB or GBC's screen with an LED one and this seemed like the best alternative since it's FPGA and all.

I know that if you play GBA on it it doesn't scale perfectly, I know about the cartridge tilt issue (How bad is it?), I know that the triggers are a bit unwieldy, I've ready the d-pad isn't the greatest, and I know you can now play roms right out of the gate when you couldn't before. You bought a shit product to have a worse experience on purpose, then bitched about it only for people to tell you why that was obviously a bad idea. Because they don't want it to be cheated which is one avenue to do that. I don't even know why you want to involve yourself with that site because they have no standards for what an achievement should be and make exceedingly difficult and grindy achievements when the entire gaming market agreed achievements should be reasonable with a few difficulty or grind-related ones here and there, not the entire damn list. Just compare some games that got remasters to the RetroAchievements lists and you'll see how ridiculous RA is by comparison. DMC1 is a great example where it wants you to get the max rank in every single stage on DMD while the remaster just wants you to beat the game on DMD at all.

If RA made Lost Odyssey achievements they'd require you to get a Rose Quartz in the DLC, master all abilities on all immortals, beat Professor K with only one Immortal, beat a NG+ run, get Kaim and Seth's ultimate weapons (So two playthroughs), beat bosses without their counters (Like no anti-paralysis on the worm), beat literally anything with Tolten, etc. Treasure Trove already exists on the official list and everyone hates it, now imagine an entire list of nothing but Treasure troves.

People who set up emulators are just random people too, you don't have to be a neckbeard just to download an emulator, Google for what you want, and off you go. RA is an extra step up the neckbeard ladder, sure, but I'm someone who loves going for achievements and absolutely hates RA because of how terrible their stuff is. A good third of a lot of the lists aren't even really possible unless you love speedrunning and know the game like the back of your hand.

They even do everything in their power to prevent you making them easier in any way. Simple example, Onimusha S rank. On the retail remaster you are just required to get an S rank (Meaning Normal or Ultimate). On RA you're forced to do it on Normal because you don't get the higher tier sword from Ultimate.

In fact, even T610 destroys it in CPU performance: https://gadgetversus.com/processor/unisoc-tiger-t610-vs-amlogic-a311d/
CPU is much more important for emulating 6th gen than GPU. You can always drop to 1x resolution if your GPU is too weak, but there isn't much you can do if your CPU is too weak, the game will just have slowdowns.

>Considering picking up a retroid pocket 3+ for a vacation later this year. I want to emulate N64 and PS1 and Dreamcast games, can it do that?
It can do all of those at full speed no matter the game.
>Would a foray into PS2 and GC games be too ambitious for this device?
Depends on what you consider a foray. Some games run at full speed with minimal tweaks, but most of them require extensive tweaking to run acceptably and even then have some slowdowns. And some are impossible to run without major slowdowns. Check the reddit compatibility sheet: https://old.reddit.com/r/retroid/comments/12jv48c/rp3_flip_compatibility_sheet/
There's also Pocket 2S which went live on sale just yesterday. It's only slightly slower than the 3+ but a whole $50 cheaper and has a display that is IMO better for all of the systems you listed. Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube and most of PS1 and N64 games run at 640x480, which is its native resolution. Now, PS2 and Gamecube performance will probably suffer slightly with the worse SoC, so make of that what you will.

Opinions on the RG300X? I want something like a Miyoo Mini+, but horizontal, and with no analog sticks. All the reviewers online were just trashing it for being $80 on launch, but it’s dropped down to $50 since then, so is it worth it now?

405M came today and yep, I think I'm going to sell it for an RP2S. D-pad on the bottom and the inline shoulders just gives me hand cramps. And I never really got the metal = premium feeling that basedbois talk about, I honestly prefer the way plastic handhelds feel. Also GammaOS is basically mandatory, the screen was fucking horrid on the stock OS. Thankfully it's pretty easy to install.

Eh, it depends in certain areas on the jurisdiction of the nation you are living in. Nations such as Japan, Australia, Belgium, Germany, and maybe Canada too, have severe to pervasive laws against leeching and uploading torrents. Others, such as Singapore, Israel, South Korea, New Zealand, Finland, Belarus, Czechia aka "Czech Republic", Iran, UAE, Armenia, Turkey, Egypt, Ireland, Switzerland, France, UK, Taiwan, and the USA since after Q1 or Q2 2017 when net neutrality had been taken down, are slightly softer, but still can be very risky regarding un-masked torrenting, especially if its a movie, TV show, or game that is still copyrighted.
Then there are Places like Mexico, Venezuala, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, Russia, Ukraine, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Argentina, Brazil, Iceland, Poland, Brunei, India, Nepal, and Pakistan, where its even less risky typically, but there are still major bylaws and technicalities.
Then comes Brazil, Russia, Mainland China, Ukraine, Bangladesh, South Africa, Hong Kong, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Colombia, Honduras, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Indonesia, as well as Ethiopia. Laos, and Cambodia, where the laws regarding what copyright infringement is defined as, along with IP laws barely being there at all. This is especially true for the last three countries for they refuse to sing the Berne convention.

Sure but if you want it just for emulation, it's expensive in the sense that the price scaling doesn't make sense when a Miyoo Mini gets you PSX emulation at sub $70 USD and you have to pay only 2x that for some PS2/GC and then the jump is almost 6x to get to full PS2/GC and PS3 territory. Unfortunately, that's how the industry works.
The main issue still is by and large how behind the chips being used in the handhelds are to be considered cheap enough to use in these devices. Do keep in mind the industry got its start off of Android TV set hardware which doesn't need a lot of power. The state of the art in retro handhelds is abysmal enough that none of the midrange sub $150 handhelds here are even using any of the ARM designs in their chips as seen in this 2020 ARM presentation slide (T618 is using Cortex A75 cores from 2017). This is more behind than the Nintendo Switch (which is slightly behind in CPU but better in GPU than a T618) which already has a notorious reputation for how outdated it is in the console space.
The other is the power scaling from consoles generation on generation up until probably the latest round of consoles onwards isn't linear and mobile processors in smartphones largely stopped having exponential performance gains with the generation of ARM designs retro handheld makers are using. You would have to effectively leap to a ARM Cortex-X1 inside a Snapdragon 888 which was in flagship phones from 2020 coming from a Cortex A75 in a T618 to get enough hardware power to get "perfect" emulation for PS2/GC/Wii baring software limitations for harder to run games like MH3 or GOW2.

Eh, that depends on a few factors. Barring external circumstances and staying the course with the current status quo of progress, I would say you would be right. But I think RISC-V, a new ISA, will eat the world and has already ate the invisible microcontroller market so cheap Android electronics is probably next. So getting up to Cortex X1 speeds for cheap may not even come from new ARM chips, but that remains to be seen. We could also see ARM iterating faster and letting old cores licenses go for cheap which could get Cortex X1 for cheap out faster to everyone due to increased competition. That would probably shorten the amount of time to 3-5 years best case. But we'll see.
