Hey David, I have your copy of SimCity. It even still has some of your cities saved. Don't worry, the bustling metropolis of "P.I.M.P." is safe... for now.

Carts with names thread? Carts with other unique markings on them thread?

Maybe you'll see your own name on one. I would probably pay extra for the actual copy of a game I was playing back in '92. But I don't think I ever marked my games. Many will scream heresy. Who among you mark your games, even today?

There is only one game in my collection that has a name on it and that was because my dad wrote it down when I let someone borrow it to prove it was mine if they tried to do any fishy things with it. Sadly they should have kept the game because Fighting Masters is a giant turd.

>> No.1008314

I never defaced any of my collection with my name. I have, though, acquired a few games in recent years adorned with the previous owner's monicker. I've been able to remove most of them. However, some are a bit more persistent like my import copy of Mario and Wario with もりもろ だいすけ written on the back.

Yes, Daisuke, I have your game and you are never getting it back, despite your demonic contract to forever imbed the ink into the cartridge.

I have a bunch of NES games my aunt's boss's son was giving away when he got an SNES. They're all marked with the same initials, ML.

It was nine or so games, I remember Rygar, Final Fantasy, Tiger Heli, and Tecmo Superbowl were part of them. I played the hell out of them until I got an SNES three years later. I wonder if the guy ever looks back and thinks about those games.

That's exactly the fucking point. Magic marker can come off/be removed, so carving your name is a much better option for those of us who don't give a shit about collectability and just want to play the game (or who just didn't care about collectibility when we were younger).

I have a 2600 copy of Defender with the name Nicole written on it. It's the only game I have with a females name on it. I never remove the names from games I get. Other marks and bullshit I'll get rid of.

I also keep rental store stickers. Last week I got a free batch of NES games and I now have two games from Captain Video. I think of the rental sticks as an artifact from a bygone age.

I also like when I find notes and codes written in manuals. In the instruction manual for Ghost House there's a score book where you can write the name, date and score. The first few spots are filled out on 12/12/89. On the back of the instruction manual he also wrote in another score board for the game Hang On for 12/13/89. I started thinking. Maybe this was an early Christmas present for Jeff way back in 1989. I'll look after your precious childhood memories Jeff.

My mom used to put a small star on the back corner of my games to make sure i returned home with the right one. When I was 15 I was going through my old things and I found all my games and saw that little star. When she did it I was so angry at her for ruining my perfect game. When I was 15 I was indifferent. I just thought the games were pretty neat. When I turned 21 and moved across the country my mother went through our old things, and gave away a lot of my stuff, except for my Super Mario World. She mailed it to me with a loving note about how she couldn't bring herself to give this game away and wanted me to have it. I called my mother and cried harder than I ever had before. I thanked her for drawing the little stars. I thanked and apologized and cried. I hope who ever had the rest of my collection appreciates those stars, appreciates what my mother did for me to ensure my individuality, to ensure that my games remained mine.

It's funny how mom's can see the important things even before they're important.
