I love the Sega CD but Wild Woody ain't it. The only cool thing about that game was the secret big-titty mermaid.

I haven't gotten to play Vay for a very long time. I should try and finish it before moving into the better RPGs of the system.

interesting and very specific collection you have. i was never the biggest fan of 'game show' games, but wheel is one of those gameshows that actually works well as a game. because there are no real outdated quiz questions or things that become obscure. the sega CD version was kinda cool with its 'digitized sprites' digitized Vanna, FMV and actual music cues and audio from the show. The wheel also uses the Sega CD's rotation ability. The N64 game is kinda cool too, and has some FMV in it.

Have yet to really try Panic! or Pier Solar and the Great Architects, but those are supposedly good. Final Fight CD has a good soundtrack. A ton of people love the Lords of Thunder port, even more than the original TurboGrafx CD game, but I haven't tried it (trying to get through its prequel, Gate of Thunder, first). I've also heard very good things about Earthworm Jim CD, Ecco the Dolphin CD, Spider-Man CD, but haven't played them, myself.

Thanks! I never had more than a Model 1 Gen growing up before moving onto N64 and Dreamcast, so I got into this system only 10 years ago via Wii emulation, and tried learning all the best games because there's so little room for them, having only 32GB max SD card space (I was even enjoying FMV crap like Revenge of the Ninja, for a while, before l learned that they're mostly a waste of space for the all the good and underrated games on this platform).

I had no idea After Burner III even existed, so I'm really glad you replyed to me. Gonna put that on my Wii and fire it up (last time I had fun with the series was with that 3D arcade one (Climax?) back at a high school field trip to Incredible Pizza in 2008/2009). Wanna try out Starblade, too, for sure. Oh, and that haunted mansion game, whatever it's called. Thanks for reading my blog, anon.

The Sega CD Jeopardy was pretty damn good too, and actually used the =CD media properly, and were not developed by GameTek. The Sega SC Wheel of Fortune and jeopardy were developed by Sony Imagesoft. They did get Alex Trebek to film footage for the game and do some VO work too. They did hire actors or stand-ins for the players. Pat Sajak was always absent from the Wheel games, for some reason. . He didn't show up in them until the more recent titles. But they always seemed to get Vanna Whites likeness.

If you can, try the PS1/3DO version of Starblade as well. I've been told After Burner III feels more like G-Loc but I don't know enough about either series to know the difference. If your Wii supports CHD's you can use those instead as they take up considerably less space than bin/cue. I ended up liking SEGA CD so much that I got a full English-friendly rom set last year. Lots of great stuff between exclusives, Genesis ports, arcade ports, even some Amiga ports, etc.

Bad meme FMV aside. The game is like an average platformer at best. It does have an interesting eraser mechanic, and a character trying to be like a wacky Warner Bros. cartoon. The soundtrack is good though. It's one of those games that I can't decide if I like or not.

Starblade is very good and doesn't feel like an FMV game at all (at first glance it resembles an early PS1 or Saturn game). A/X-101 and Star Wars: Rebel Assault are in the same category though it's a little more obvious that they're using FMV visuals. Aside from that it's mostly the animated ones, Road Avenger, Time Gal, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, probably Cobra Command.

FMV also works very well for stuff like >>10088876. 3DO has a few more games like Burning Soldier but there's a separate thread for that

Forgot to mention a few others... Silpheed is a basic shmup but it uses scaling effects and FMV backgrounds to give it a 3D look similar to Starblade. The cutscenes look very cool, again like an early Saturn or PS1 (or I guess 32X) game. Then there's Wirehead which I've never played but some of the scenes look really wacky and fun if you like nonsensical action films. There's even a really funny scene with a Nintendo logo in it

Silpheed actually does take full advantage of the Sega CD hardware. This game was somewhat marketed as a 'Star Fox killer' for the North American market by SOA, but in reality it is a remake of a PC88 game. It does use FMV backdrops, does render some polygons, uses the Sega CD scaling hardware, and the in-game soundtrack does use the 8-channel PCM. Overall, I think Star Fox is a better game, as this one still plays like a vertical shooter with a perspective. But it has a great presentation.
