Are there secrets about OoT that haven't previously been posted here or on any website?

>> No.10075415

There was a thread awhile back where an anon was making a list of secrets, there were like 30-40 and then other anons contributed more. Outside of that, OoT secrets don't discussed as much as you'd expect.

if you shoot blue bubbles (the flying skull enemies) with a light arrow, they will drop a purple rupee

it's not just blue bubbles, it's most enemies, from guays to the giant moblin

I enjoyed that thread. It's nice to have comfy threads celebrating things rather than the shit-flinging competitions that often happen on this site.

What’s so special about this thread that the other 1200 OOT threads aren’t good enough for, you fucking pathetic loser?

As someone who spent months pouring over the source code of the game, I do have a bunch of stuff that I've never seen mentioned anywhere.

As an example, there's a hidden conversation you can have with Malon if you play Epona's song to her at night, as an adult, but before you've raced Ingo for Epona.

How's the humanization of the codebase currently? I know the decomp teams intended to do a lot of cleanup and documentation after hitting 100%. Curious about that progress and am waiting before I dive into it myself.
Things like function and variable names, commentary, etc.
Last time I checked out the Indigo development streams it seemed like some stuff was still arbitrarily named from the machine translations, but he might be on some older branches too.

People have been putting names to stuff, but last time I checked people still barely understood the structure of z_player.c AKA the almost 20k lines that controls Link's behavior and so have only progressed on that by putting on more obvious details.

Still, there's a ton of stuff you can do with the code in the state that it's in, you just have to be prepared to wrangle a few things.

That's pretty interesting. Can a beginner programmer understand the code? Can you please post a link to the source code?

It's too bad the full source of Ocarina of Time's code never leaked in the gigaleak.

Should be the main codebase, but if you're new to it I'd recommend checking out the actor section first, as it's easier to understand the code driving individual NPCs/enemies and looking up what the functions for them do, as they are very modular and correspond directly to behavior you can observe.

https://github.com/zeldaret/oot/tree/master/src/overlays/actors

If you are familiar with how to read C code you can come to grips with it.

Another thing I'll mention is that when Morpha spawns a new 'tentacle', the overall water level of the arena actually lowers slightly to account for the volume used to make the appendage.

Neat. Thanks for letting me know.
Thankfully all those obvious and small changes add up, and sometimes exponentially if the right puzzles get figured out.

Excited to see what people uncover. I remember being surprised to find out about Link's crit wiggle (where he moves at low health sometimes).
Always wondered if that was intentional or a result of a bug. It almost has to be the former but you never know.

This is bullshit, script dumps have been available for years now and never shown any secret conversations

No

Yes, the text should be there in the dumps, it's completely transparent to anyone who looks through the code and game resources, I'm just pointing out that there *is* a hidden conversation that most people wouldn't know about, or at least didn't identity, and that I've never seen any explicit mention of it, even in conversations about the game's Easter eggs, guides etc.

Similarly, though I haven't gone through the game's code, I did come up with a trivia quiz for MM a while back to see how many people had discovered certain things that I'd never seen discussion about, but which were obviously programmed in deliberately.

My favorite quirk of MM that I've not seen other people mention (though someone did figure this out when I posted the question) is that there is a specific place where it normally rains when the weather changes on the second day, but which can be made to not rain under specific conditions, and this actually seem to have thematic significance for certain characters.

I have seen several "Hidden facts" that say Zelda has unique dialogue for each of Link's masks.
But, as far as I'm aware, you cannot get masks when first seeing Zelda. After you meet Zelda, you are locked out of Hyrule Courtyard by impassable guards.

Is this bullshit? Or am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure that's only after you get the other spiritual stones.

Everyone knows i but no one says it but it is used by a lot of paedophiles for sexual release! That's a kind of secret.
