Dpad and analogues look to be in a decent placement, in-spite of the analogue being on top of the dpad. A 10.1 inch display though? Absurd. You might as well carry around a laptop and small controller for that size. The color schemes are also butt ugly.

Been using my vita a lot as of late as a PS1/PSP handheld with some GBA emulation too. I also recently got moonlight to work on it to stream Dolphin, PCSX2, steam etc from my desktop. My biggest issue is I keep touching the rear touchpad when I don't want to and that gets annoying quick. Grips with L2/R2 buttons are also very expensive. If there's anyone here that's used them, are they worth it? Or should I just use the money plus more and get a RP3+?

Cope. It's an objectively bad form factor, especially if you are older than 12 and not Asian.
Vertical Gameboys only somewhat worked because that was the audience that Nintendo targeted. Even then, they realized that horizontal handhelds are simply superior in a few generations. New vertical handhelds shouldn't be made, just like CCFL-backlit displays are not made any more. It's an old, inferior technology that we learned from and surpassed. It's embarrassing and shameless that chinks still make vertical handhelds to ride on the Gameboy nostalgia. Learn from the past instead of wanting to go back to it. Reject nostalgia, embrace non-linearity.

It's not really pocketable anymore but it's comfy to use for a vertical handheld and the analog stick isn't completely useless. It's not just the height, the width makes it comfier too. I really think it's their best in that form factor.

Listen here, retard. Real Gameboys have screens that are nowhere near anything you see in modern electronics. They are low-res and the more light shines at them, the brighter they get. Your screen is high-res and the content is harder to see when light shines at it. That's the furthest you can get from the original experience. And no, shaders cannot fix it. Shaders cannot modify display parameters such as reaction times, viewing angles, contrast and its light-reflecting properties. So you paid 3 times the price of a GBA in good condition to play games that look nowhere near what they're supposed to. Congratulations.
>pc engine, turbografx, gamegear, gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, CARTRIDGES
The first two are actually the same console, retard. And one of those versions used CDs. Let me know how many PCEngine and Game Gear carts you own. Any version of GBA can play all of the latter three, and in the way they were meant to be played.

Recently I finished both of them on my RG35XX and it was great.
Played some Psycho Pinball for the Mega Drive last week and then finished Bomberman 3 today.
I don't know how I endured those transition for each level when I was kid. Even with fast forward that shit was taking to much time to go for the next level, meanwhile Bomberman 1 and 2 for the SNES was great in the transition for each level. Well, at least was fun to replay, but beating 1 and 2 for the first time was more enjoyable.
Next I'm probably going to play a Goof Troop hack, DKC3 or Mario 3 for the NES.

The psp is generally harder to emulate than the dreamcast, so if 90% of psp games work, 92% of dreamcast games will likely work. Below is a youtube video showing a bunch of psp games on the RK2023.
The vast majority of them play just fine, with 1 or 2 exceptions. The person playing used the default system settings for each game, and likely could have squeezed out a few more fps for the games that didn't work well with a bit of tweaking.

RG35XX has 5 hour battery life, a little taller, and HDMI. Miyo Mini+ has WiFi for retro achievements and could probably run moonlight or something. The RG35XX also has a better CPU and double the RAM, but this doesn't seem to effect performance as much as one would expect, which may just be an issue of the custom firmwares not fully taking advantage of it yet.

Where are you getting that from? The resistive film in the DS screen is made of PET, same material as plastic bottles. It yellows when moisture gets between it and the screen proper, which often happens to Japanese consoles because of the high humidity there. Same with the 3DS.

In the realm of gaming, a nostalgic delight,
Behold the SF2000, a handheld's true might,
With pixels refined and colors so bright,
It conjured memories of an era's resplendent light.

A portal to the past, it takes us back in time,
to a golden age of gaming, when joy was prime.
The clink of coins in arcades, the joystick's sway,
Now captured in this handheld, preserving yesterday.

Its compact design fits snugly in our palm,
A treasure trove of classics, a gaming psalm.
From platforms to shooters, RPGs galore,
Each game a masterpiece, leaving us craving more.

The buttons dance beneath our nimble touch,
As we guide pixel heroes, oh, so much.
The screen a window to worlds pixelated,
Where challenges await, both fierce and unabated.

In the depths of dungeons, we quest and explore,
Puzzles to solve, treasures to restore.
With each victory won and each boss defeated,
The SF2000's allure is ever repeated.

No need for modern frills or graphics so grand,
For it's the gameplay and memories we demand.
The SF2000 embraces what we hold dear,
Remind us of gaming's legacy, crystal clear.

So let us raise our voices, and homage we sing,
To the SF2000, a retro-gaming king.
It carries the torch of bygone days,
Igniting our hearts in a nostalgic blaze.

Cheap famiclones don't have tf card slots or any way of editing the onboard memory, so no. Some engineer on reddit managed it by editing the rom chips thanks to have the equipment, but that shit costs money. Just get a SF2000 if you're cheap, they can be as little as $15 if you watch for sales.

A 7" clamshell is perhaps the maximum size I consider pocketable. If the $400-ish GPDS has power equivalent to the GPD Win Max 2/Win Mini It's a done deal. And I would want with that.-

-4 usb ports at front, unlike the flawed Max 2 where they get in the way of your hand placement.
- 2 micro SD and 1 regular SD card slots.
- OCuLink port, HDMI out and USB C ports et cetera at the back all like the WM2.

Do all this GPD. And you've got yourselves a deal. And, I'd imagine. A serious Steam deck destroyer.

The screen isn't that bad, the default is 4:3 but you can set it to 3:2 letterbox or original 240×160 and even switch in-game unlike the DS. Works a lot better if you have a USB-C hub with a wired network port in though - the wireless on that thing is pretty temporamental.

If you're being more virtuous and ripping your own from disks you legitimately bought however, can imagine that is a bit of a pain; you might be able to plug a CD/DVD/Bluray drive in via USB in desktop mode?

Aren't you going to be covering up part of the speakers with your hands while playing?

>> No.10076916

That's a pretty massive change in itself m8. That said, it also has the Vita style d-pad from the 3, start and select added above d-pad and face buttons, back and ??? buttons added next to home, bottom controls (sticks in this case) offset towards the screen for better ergonomics, slider swapped for a proper analog stick, and just in general the sticks look different (caps look concave? and base is completely different). The face buttons also look like they might be the ones from the Flip, which would be great as I hated how they connected underneath on the 2+.

Additional changes that I speculate might have happened with literally zero evidence
>t618 chip
>analogue triggers from flip
>might have 4500mAh battery from RP3+? least likely speculation since the smaller screen will obviously be less of a power draw

I don't expect bottom control usage to be as comfortable as on Vita, but I appreciate it at least has some offset unlike Anbernic's stuff, or 99% of chinkhelds for that matter.
>Aren't you going to be covering up part of the speakers with your hands while playing?
That actually didn't happen on the 2+. Well, at least with my hands and grip it didn't. I don't think that's something anyone complained about but I could be wrong.
>Wasn't the wider screen of the RP3/RP3+ a big hit due to being able to play PSP and GBA games in their original aspect ratio?
I think most of us just put up with the 16:9 aspect ratio because (almost) everything else about it was good including screen quality. It was definitely a boon for PSP though, yeah, but generally I prefer a taller/more narrow aspect ratio when given the choice.

Reasons for RG353PS instead of Steam Deck: less bulk (fits inside a pocket) and 640x480 display. That's the resolution most PSX, N64 and Dreamcast games run at, which means that both 3D geometry and BITMAPS display perfectly. Steam Deck has to use scaling and bitmaps will certainly not look as nice because its display is too small for 2x integer scaling. Steam Deck's resolution is only good for GBA and its display has worse color accuracy and contrast than most chinkhelds.

Definitely makes things so much easier when setting things up on Emudeck, Heroic Launcher or anything that isn't native Steam.

I've also managed to get GZDoom and Eduke32 working on it recently - they both have native Linux releases, but require a bit of tinkering to work.

Interestingly, Eduke seems to like the Steamdeck (and my DS5) gamepad a lot more than GZDoom, which you pretty much have to map as a mouse and WASD setup to make work.

PC gaming was in a downward spiral and looking to die in the early 00s when companies thought everyone using a PC to play games were pirates and did late ports and then when those ports came, told PC gamers to put up with the worst forms of DRM like SecuROM and Starforce. Steam in comparison by far was milquetoast and was one of the many digital services that popped up like Direct2Drive to Gamersgate to Stardock . Yeah sure, requiring it for HL2 as a form of DRM was a shitty thing to do to get the leg up on their competitors in order for Steam to gain traction. But it wasn't Valve's fault their competitors couldn't compete with Steam in ease of use and digital servicing and died for reasons not related to Valve games requiring Steam and they had a good 5-7 years until Steam really took off. I am not going to say they saved PC gaming but they were really the only ones left standing on the PC platform after everyone else who stood up and supported the platform largely left and are still doing innovative things today with their platform and hardware. They are the "least bad" company out there in the gaming space you can find.

At the same time though even if it is a different chipset, it makes no sense for it to be stronger than the t618, so I can only imagine it as a comparable equivalent that they could sourced cheaper (Amlogic found in the RGB10MAX3 maybe?)

If it's the T310 again they could sell it for dirt cheap. They ARE lacking a cheap device atm in their line-up, after all. I know that would make a lot of people asshurt, but way worse chips like the ones in 35xx, mini+, 353ps, x55, rk2023, etc is where the sales are right now because they can sell for sub $100.

I think it’d be silly to rehash that of all things when they redid nearly everything else, the sticks alone being so much nicer suggests to me it isn’t shooting to be a budget shitter

It isn’t hard for them to undercut Anbernig’s RG405 for the plastic shell variants still, and they have a metal shell option for those that want to splurge

T618 still makes the most sense, at least it can play N64 without configuration unlike the T310

Here’s another tidbit too, I didn’t think they’d do the “RP2+-to-RP3 and then immediate RP3+ upgrade shortly after” again and definitely not for this RP2S shell/form factor, but no RP4 yet

What do you think /hhg/
Should I grab one of the better non-windows handhelds or go for a Switch that can be modded (or already is)

I agree t618 is a way better chip, but it's hard to ignore that this almost certainly has a 3.5" screen (someone even measured this out using usb port) which puts it in line with 35xx, Mini+, 353ps etc for a lot of people, and that there's a gaping hole in their line-up for something cheap. I don't think them going back to a t310 is more likely than them using the t618 again, but I DO think it is far more likely than them introducing a chip they've never used altogether. At the very minimum there's zero chance of them introducing a chip stronger than the t618 before the RP4.

Agreed. I’m going against all the general tide of all the completely clueless plebbitors crossing their fingers for “hopefully full GC/PS2 and under $100 bro!!!! Or ez pass!!!” but I’m happily buying immediately if it’s the t618, I don’t care if android is ass on a 4:3 screen.

To your point though the resolution will be key I guess in that factor

Also i think it’s largely benefited retroid in getting their shit together from the doodoo RP2 and Powkiddy-duet RP1 by keeping their lineup small, I’m not sure they really need a budget option

There were initial rumors that Retroid and Miya were under the same umbrella, but it’s confirmed Retroid and AYN at the very least are, so if they wanna settle in the middle-to-higher end field, focused releases make more sense imo. This rp2s feels focused, even if it ends up with a t618 again and people argue it’s just another rehash

I didn't know it was that easy to replace. All I knew at the time was that I had a completely useless console.
Besides, it's trivially easy to replace the controllers on a proper Switch. Now I don't need to worry as much about it failing.

I saw some cunt complain about the possibility LE ANOTHER T618 AGAIN xDDD and literally the next line talk about how he loved the X55 and was gearing up to buy one.

Don't get me wrong, I actually think the X55 is really cool and am glad Powchaddy found success, but it absolutely BAFFLES me to see someone complain about chip rehashing and then jerk off to another rk3566 rehash. A chip, mind you, that has been getting rehashed for longer than the T618 and gets thoroughly BTFO by theT310 in even the original RP2+

I'd say half and half
There's a bunch of games I'm interested to play on the switch that I'd rather play on a portable than do something like emulate on my PC (or play on PC altogether, some of these are just indie games I can find on steam). Getting some Saturn, DC and N64 games to run well on a portable is tempting. I don't think I'm more interested on harder platforms to emulate (PS2/GC/Wii) that much. That generation overall is not that special to me and I think I'd only consider it if compatibility/performance was quite high.
My issue with these emulation handhelds is that they're mostly just that. Not a lot of ports or recent games. I still remember back when these handhelds were crappy (GP2X, Canoo and the like) that people tried to port more games to these and even develop them.

V has an inferior screen compared to VS according to reviews, I assume PS is the same. Android on 2GB is sluggish, there's the L2 and R2 not working on games that expect Xbox controllers issue that Anbernig refuses to fix (there's a temp fix but it's a bitch to run), it ships without Play Store and Play Services which some games require to run, but that also hinders higher end emulation performance. There was one attempt to make a custom ROM, but it's not only abandoned and paywalled, it only supports older units' screens, GammaOS guy on the other hand "doesn't want to step on people's toes". On the Linux side, some portmaster games are just broken and no one cares, like SRB2 Kart, battery metrics are way off and it eats too much power on idle. There's no easy way to select the OS, stock one uses a crashing trick that eventually corrupts the SD card so you'll have to keep ejecting and inserting the card to switch between the two, which is a terrible idea. The d-pad does false diagonals, but I think all chinkhekds do. I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the form factor of the V, but $100 for it is a ripoff. Might want to look into the powkiddy one too, I think it's the X55?
