Any other decent essentials charts floating around?

In retrospect I had pretty good luck overall buying random games.

Not the guy, but i totally do this as well, the only time i actually get them on an emulator before hand is if the game is above $40.

This. I kinda hate the idea that only certain games are going to be perpetuated because of "Essential" lists. But then I guess the same sort of thing happens to film, music and novels.

Fucking youngfags I swear...
When I was a boy we didn't even have the internet to ask if a game was good. We had to buy it with money and find out the hard way.

Nah. We went to the local video shop and rented them out for $2-3 for the weekend. If they sucked we never looked back, if they were good we bought them.

Or "lost" them, got banned from a few video rental places for that

I would take Yoshi's Island, Aladdin, Super Punch-Out, and Killer Instinct off that chart. Sorry.

Yoshi's Island is fun, but it's easy to get nauseated (a la Sonic the Hedgehog 3 later levels).

Genesis/MD version of Aladdin is (objectively) superior.

Super Punch-Out just... Eck. I like Punch-Out, but not that one.

KI64 was fantastic, but on the SNES it was just a little pale.

Just me.

I'd add Evermore, Tetris 2, Illusions of Gaia, and Harvest Moon.

Just me though.

this might not be the correct thread, but here's the question:

I've downloaded some psx games, and they are .mdf files,
sadly my android emulator does not seem to like those, as he likes only .img files.

how do i covert said .mdf file to .img? any ideas?

I've always seen essential as more of a "Prior knowledge on these will be expected of you if this is your hobby" than a "These are the ONLY ones you need to play" or something like that, one should not limit himself to only the essentials however.

That doesnt stop the snes version from being good.

Thats like saying he needed to take castlevania 4 out of the list because Sotn was better.

Neither where on the Snes for the argument is void.

it's a solid game but some people don't like it because it's a collectathon

you're going along trying to have fun and then whoops some flying shyguy is dangling a red coin up in the corner of the screen, well better go for it, oh he flew away ok so now you're barred from properly completing that stage because you didn't look into the future and predict that shyguy

then you meet a boss and it's cool and dramatic, you're having a fun fight trying to figure out what to do, and then whoops you got hit and lost some stars or whatever, and you it seems like you can't get them back during the fight so now you have to either kill yourself and give up the unique and irreplaceable drama of your first encounter with that boss, or go on fighting knowing you'll just have to do it again later to REALLY complete the stage

basically the game doesn't want you to play, it wants you to work--that's one reason why some people dislike it anyway

No, it wasn't. They were very different games that each had different strengths.

I'm wondering if there is any sort of comprehensive history list displaying all games that have been ever released on most consoles.

I've seen Wikipaedia has an adequate listing, but it definitely seems very incomplete, as some titles I've seen have hardly anything or no note at all.
