I genuinely don't understand the mentality of people who go out of their way to have original consoles and original games and then proceed to run everything into a anachronistic display.

Like look at this:
https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/ele/d/los-angeles-sony-36-crt-tv/7642120506.html

For fuckin $90, like 2% of what this dude spent on this whole set up he could have a beautiful display that supports composite, component and S-Video, less input lag, wouldn't have to fuck with a line doubler or any of that shit. And it would look right! These sets are still out there!

I just don't get it.

Amiibos and displaying console boxes should have the same stigma as funko pops.

bait thread but i'll post in it sincerely because slow day
recently got a free ps3, a non /vr/ console at last
got this furniture stand/desk thing free, as well as the laptop to the right of the wii (use it exclusively for casting movies/shows on either the crt or hdtv)
pretty much nothing here was expensive in any capacity, or is something i've owned for 15+ years like the wii (use the wii because its not reasonable to me to have my nes/snes/mega drive/gc/etc all standing at attention when the wii can do their jobs for them and take up less space)
to the right of the dreamcast is the saturn, during active use the dreamcast is pushed up so that the fan on the side has room to breath
wii can do pc engine and sega cd shit so at this point i think i have everything i'm interested in
and of course it wouldn't be complete without the big fat asian charlie's angels girl so people know shit is about to go down
i like this set up, it's kinda small and in the corner of my room so it feels like a snug little nook away from the conventional furniture/stuff

My current setup with a really shitty old desk that slouches due to the weight of the CRT. Hand made desk for my madcatz mc2. Dreamcast and saturn are on the second shelf, couldn't get everything in the same picture. Thinking about having my own dedicated monitor for dreamcast vga since I'm mostly playing that console right now.

Works great, no compatibility issues of any kind I'm aware of. My only complaint is with the recess the Pocket sits in. It's quite shallow and does not guide the handheld into the correct alignment with the USB connector. Consequently, the area around the port on the handheld gets scratched up without a lot of care or some other mitigation. I cut a piece of clear packing tape to protect the area around my Pocket's USB port.

Whereas a womab needs huge spaces, and all this extra impractical junk. Stuff like a "Live, Laugh, Love" sign on the wall or matching Furniture everywhere.

Hard to see everything but the CRT has a Wii, PS2, Xbox, Dreamcast, and Retropie.
Under the modern TV is a PS3, PS4, and Switch. The PC in the bottom left corner isn't actually connected to anything, it's just a server.
I mainly just collect games I really like, while modding the consoles to play everything else.
I need to buy a cart for the CRT so I can push it into the corner when I'm not using it and a shelf for all the consoles.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for one of those Coloco controllers- also plan on grabbing a flash cart for it eventually since I just recently got it working again with a new PSU. The video output looks like shit for some reason, hopefully it's just the crappy cable I'm using or maybe passing it through the VCR is causing some interference but I do know the console was sitting in destitute condition for over two decades before I gave it a new home.

Do you know where you bought the toaster? I've had a hard time finding much information about who made the computer or when, or who did the case design.

You're definitely poor! Wasting money on "rotting" plastic? I've own an original model NES since 1989 and it hasn't rotted one bit. Some of my other older consoles I own since childhood/teen years are the Sega Master System, a model 1 Sega Genesis, SNES, PS1, Sega Saturn, N64 & the Sega Dreamcast. They all look & work great. False. I'm just pointing out that console/game collectors like myself can afford more than your broke ass since you complain about how people spend their money. LOL If anything, you're insecure & have to put people down for spending money on games & consoles. Unlike you, I worked for all the things I own. You have to pirate because you live with your parents & don't want to work, hence your projection. You're mad at console/game collectors like myself who spend money on actual hardware & physical games. Maybe us collectors are more passionate about collecting than your broke ass. So if I want to buy a white Japanese Sega Saturn because I prefer it over my black American Sega Saturn, I will(and already have)! Why? Because I got more than enough money to do so. My advice to you is to get a job.

brainwashed take
being rich doesn't make you an "asshole"
even Jesus himself said that it wasn't impossible for a rich man to enter the gates of heaven
the 'eye of the needle' is a real place
its a small gate & would have been v difficult for a camel loaded down with gear to enter

same is true for our spirit
if you are comically rich its v easy to live a distracted\pampered life
it becomes easy to lack self-awareness

Hmmm, I can probably get by on my ps2 for right now then, but shipping shouldn't be too long. Currently in the process of trading a complete sears telegames atari bundle for some ps1/2 games, and hoping to trade off a sealed msdos copy of blackthorne for some more games. Would love to find a sega genesis, cd, and a saturn at some point.

One sharp set is for component ps12&3 games, one for component gc and wii, one for older pc games and nostalgia commercials, one for modern pc games, and one for videos. i run toonamiaftermath on the desktop crt for max nostalgia. vcr and dvd player are also hooked up to the 27 inchers and vhs collection is out of frame. have a sony pvm 8221 that is in a cubby that i dont use bc its just too fucking small for anything useful. favorite set is the desktop crt, unbelievably smooth and clear.

overall i really enjoyed everyones sets so far, all unique and at the end of the day its whats most comfy for whoevers playing

Unironically this. I started getting into upgrading audio over a decade ago, and the look on my friend's faces when they come over to play vidya and hear audio from an actual fucking audio system for the first time in their lives is always great. Audio is really 9/10ths of the immersion, and you'd be surprised how much depth there is in even "beeps and boops" when you have a sound system that actually does some work.

Had a friend over once and we were playing hte end of FFVII and he was like, "That was the best that One Winged Angel has ever sounded, period" When the floor is shaking and the windows are rattling while Sephiroth is casting Supernova, it's hard not to get sucked into the moment, even if the poly is low.

And here is the computer corner of the room. Currently \in the middle of reworking my VR computing. I did have a computer that dual booted XP/10 then a tower for Win9x but keeping parts that are compatible with both XP and 10 was really holding back my Win10 build and I do wanna do some modern PC gaming in my man cave. Tossed together a PC for WIn10 and got a USB 2.0 switch, plan to run 3 towers going forward.

Having a MicroSD card reader and USB on the front of the main PC has been very handy for moving games onto flash carts and ODEs for my retro consoles.

My friend got them, too, he gave me Jupiter and Venus. Funny thing is it actually was our family's home PC at that time, even though it was severely underpowered I still used it to watch YouTube when that first started taking-off and we'd play Mall Tycoon and other low-spec stuff on it occasionally. Also flash games and Runescape.

>ill be brutally honest, i hoarded more consoles than this at one point and realized displaying them was more fun than actually playing them. id look into either downsizing the collection or displaying them properly.
