I just bought this N64 with the games and controller for 70 bucks off a buddy, a bit more than i wanted to spend but buddy was hurtin for cash.
What else has /vr/ picked up?

Well OP that was nice of you to do your buddy straight like that. 70 is still under FMV for what you bought. I recently picked up 5 CDI games, a Wavebird and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Was in Chicago for business the last three days, finished at noon today, and decided to mess around the city for a few hours before I drove home (downstate). I found this place on Yelp, about a mile south of Wrigley, and decided to hit it up.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/people-play-games-chicago

It was a /vr/ wet dream. They had everything you could ever want. Shelves and shelves of boxed 2600, N64, SNES, Game Boy, and Genesis games. I'm talking legitimately hundreds. And that's not counting all of the loose cartridges they carry. Systems out the ass. Boxed 2600s, NES, everything. Seriously, it was heaven.

They had a Master System selection like you would not believe. Like, every game released for the system, and multiple copies of them. No joke. TG-16 games out the ass, Odyssey, Coleco, everything. They even had a shit load of Channel F carts in stock. HUGE selection of import Saturn and Dreamcast games too.

Prices were high, but fair, but I don't know how much of that had to do with it being in the city where everything is expensive. Most of the 3DO games for $5.00. CIB Majora's Mask for $60. The rarer Master System games for $50. They had a couple copies of Radiant Silvergun for $160.

Anyway, pic related was my haul.

I paid $600 for the TurboDuo. Didn't even bat an eye. Fucker is in absolutely IMMACULATE condition. I felt it was fair. $770 for everything, including Chicago's outrageous sales tax. Could have dropped $5,000 there easy.

Got this lot for 18$ today. I'm including the PS2 even though it's not retro because it was bought in the same lot from a Salvation Army thrift store. I got Mega Man X4 and Legend of Mana for 1$ because they were mixed in with the music CDs. Mega Man X4 is my childhood. Once I was playing it super close to the TV and I started to smell the odor of boiling eggs. I assumed it was someone cooking in the kitchen so I continued to play, the smell of eggs still permeating the air.

A couple of hours later I had finally beaten Magma Dragoon so I get up to get something to eat. As soon as I was out of my seat I realized what I had been smelling - at some point my dog had walked in the room and taken a fat shit behind me and walked out undetected.

I chose not to eat that night.

As the other anon said, I think location will greatly affect your luck in finding something. Not only do I live in college town (pretty much everything on Craigslist is something related to a PS3 or 360) I live in the nice suburb-y part of town. Sure, I might get super lucky and find something, but it's so likely that I'll find nothing at all. Not even retro games and company, but anything I'm interested in--computers, TVs, various knick-knacks, etc.

I don't think wealthy families take garage sales seriously. They just use it as an opportunity to have a plan for their Saturday to bust out the folding tables, empty some trash onto them, buy some donuts and close up shop in 4 hours to drop the rest of their crap off at Goodwill and buy themselves lunch. They'll just sell anything of value online and everybody else can buy scraps.

Maybe I'm too pessimistic though, but from experience I've found literally nothing even worth a glance when I've gone out.

There are a lot of awesome games that came out for the genesis. Not as many amazing classics as the Super Nintendo, but some awesome series.

If you like RPG's be sure to try out the Phantasy Star games. These are awesome and go by pretty cheap, so it's pretty easy to add them to your collection.

The Streets of Rage games are also amazing, and have some killer quality soundtracks. They say the music in these games inspired EDM produced outside of games, too.

Since you have Sega CD, you'll be glad to know there's no copy protection. That's good because every classic on that system goes for a lot of money, except maybe Sonic CD (you should probably pick that one up). Be sure to check out the Lunar games and Final Fight CD.

If you like Shmups, there's a few awesome ones on here. Check out Hellfire, Robo Aleste (sega Cd) and MUSHA, though that last one is pretty expensive to find

I went to the flea market that I go to a lot about every other 2 weeks during the summer. There's always just... shit. Shit music being played loudly in the background (mostly hispanic music), idiots who overprice everything (lel @ one dude selling Sonic 2 for $45). It's hard to come across good, classic vidya as ALL WE SEE THERE ARE FUCKING SPORTS GAMES. AHHHHH. Makes me want to go mad at all those sports games!

However yesterday, while we were walking thru the market, I said "guys, I just want to find that one gem..." and there it was, a Gamecube. Beautiful condition, came WITH a Game Boy player, Super Mario World 3 for GBA, 2 controllers, and Zelda - Collector's Edition for GCN. I asked the kind lady how much her DVD players (which were below the GCN) were and she said "$25". Perfect. I didn't care about the DVD players, but she probably had no idea what the GCN was worth so I'd assume she would say the GCN was around the same price. I asked her finally, and she said the GCN was $25 too. I haggled hard with her as it didn't come with the A/V cable. I already knew I was getting a fantastic deal (Zelda CE alone is $30), but the lower the better, my friends. She just wouldn't accept my $20 offer. I then pulled out the crisp $20 bill, and was handing it it to her, and.. she took it!

Then I picked up this gorgeous, non-yellow SNES (I could not believe my eyes) at a guy selling right next to her. Got it for $45, 1 controller, Super Mario World and cables included!

Yeah, the flea market near me where I got the Genesis set for $60 (see earlier in thread) is pretty much the same. The guy who sold the set to me seems to be reputable (he cleans and shrink wraps his shit together, albeit a little hot glue as well, what can I say: mexicans) but still has a touch of reseller (he was also selling a NES action set wrapped himself for $55). He sometimes has deals on consoles and accessories, but has a flat rate on all games (NES, Atari, and Genesis games $8 each, SNES games $15 each). Not to mention it's a flea market so the games are in...umm...less good condition.

Went out this morning not really expecting anything. Surprisingly I actually found stuff. I bought Godzilla for NES for $2 and Suikoden Tactics for PS2 for $1.
I would've bought 7th Saga from some guy but he was hard to deal with and I didn't have much money on me (that I could spend) that and I didn't want to pay $18, I ended up not buying anything from him but will be returning next week since he said he had more stuff.

Just got the first of three shipments those were in; Sexy Parodius, DonPachi, Puyo Puyo 3 and QuoVadis. I can always trust Japanese sellers to keep everything in great condition, pack things splendidly and somehow find a box that fits everything perfectly. They're all in great condition too. No scratches on the disk, none of the jewel cases have broken hinges or cracks, and they all have the manual and slip cover.

I'm most curious about QuoVadis, since I couldn't find anything about it at all. I imagine DonPachi would still be more of the same since it's the first game. I'll try them a bit later and let you know

I can see why I got QuoVadis for 99 cents and it had no competition; it sucks. It's a strategy game set in space. It's definitely a cool idea, and something I've never played before. When I'm actually brought to the game, it's an oddly colored and drawn map that looks more like a computer simulation than outerspace. The icons representing my fleet and the opponents look like little red and blue sedans. There's no HUD indicating whose turn it is, or anything pertinent about my fleet of ships. It seemed to be turn based, but I couldn't do anything until the enemy's sedan got over to me and initiated a battle. At first it seemed cool but I was swiftly proven wrong. The enemy's fleet was an exact mirror of my own, but a different color, and even though they initiated the battle, I went first. Though, likely through the language barrier, I only figured out how to attack; I don't know if the ships behind me could have done anything, but I tried the three options to no avail. But the kicker: the game had to load for 4 seconds to show the animation of the static ships shooting out some lasers. And after that, I'm back to the map. I knew right away I wouldn't be able to choke it down.

Also, Donpachi is more of the same. I suck at it though, I got to stage 3 after like 4 continues.

Just found this thread having just gotten back into retro gaming. I thought I'd share a place in London
http://chiswickcarbootsale.com/
50p entry but loads of stuff, normally a games section every time. I originally went in looking for obscure European board games (of which people who get them as presents love to sell) when I saw a guy clearing out his son's stuff. I bought axis and allies from him only to find he had a Snes in great condition with around 30 games, 3 controllers (one broken apparently) all wires and outputs. £20. I had know idea how much they were worth and had spent all my cash by then. So some other guy bought them after me. Feels bad now. :(

At least I still have my mega drive...

If the thrift store is anything like the one near me, it might have an electronics section with a shelf or a bin full of random power and A/V connectors. If it does, you might want to scour that section, it's possible the hookups ended up there.

I recently found a GBA SP at the thrift store near me, the unit itself was up front under the counter, with no power cord, I went back to the electronics section, dug around, and found the cord.
