I've only played ISS 64 but it's really fun. Great menu music too. As far as other games:

>NBA Jam: Tournament Edition (NBA Hangtime is good too)
>Tecmo Super Bowl (NES version is the best)
>NES Ice Hockey
>NES Double Dribble

ISS 64 was probably the first football game I remember that felt actually fun to play in 3D. SNES football games were pretty tedious to play at the time and likely didn't age better.

For me, it's Beach Spikers: Virtua Beach Volleyball. It's a Sega arcade game, so it's easy to pick up and play, so I replay it pretty regularly.

This is the one genre outside of RPG's that I admittedly haven't played a lot of. There are some good ones on SEGA CD, mainly National Hockey Night, NHL '94, and NBA Hangtime. There's also NBA Jam I guess, any version is fine.

I've never played DOAX, so I don't really know. In itself, the gameplay is pretty straightforward and focuses mostly on positioning and timing, so in that sense, I'd say it's relatively simple (though it can be pretty difficult to pull off well).

nice to see ISS64 mentioned. it's among the best sport vidyas of its gen but nintentards never mention it. weird because it's not like the n64 got so many games.

Not retro but the most fun I've had with other people on a sports game is Beijing 2008. Prepare to break a few controllers. I'm sure Athens 2004 plays similar but I've never had the chance to play.

I'm sure the game is fine but that cover is horrendous.
A big green planetoid under the characters and above them a green logo with two green words and the font for golf is the most boring thing imaginable.
And it's not "Disney's Magical Golf Tour" or "Mickey Mouse's Hole in One Extravaganza Deluxe" or even "Goofy's Zany Golf", it's just Disney golf. Sounds like a game where you hit the links with Walt and you spend half the game smoking cigarettes and complaining about jews and communists.

I loved playing this game with my cousins when we were kids.
It and Super Mario Strikers were the only sports games I cared about. Not counting Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, or Mario Super Sluggers as they're not considered retro yet.
