the OG games had that almost-parody vibe to them that the newer games lost. it also shocks me how small the map actually looks when fully rendered. 15 square miles feels a lot bigger with fog and occlusion culling.

The GTA games are generally not very good at making villains you actually care about / find satisfying to take down. San Andreas and 4 did it well but that's about it.

Can I emulate Stories on Switch? Don't really want to do it on PC.

4 did a bad job, since Darko is a main villain of Niko's story, and you have to deal with him before finishing the game. And you don't even get a chance to kill Bulgarin.
GTA 3 did a good job, made it a simple revenge story and that's it. You don't need more for a game.
