Is there any reason to play this game + expansions over any of its sequels? I’ve never played a Sims game and have been thinking about giving the OG a shot.

Yes yes and yes. OG Sims has a different mood and aesthetic over its sequels, packs a bit of social commentary thats absent from the sequels, and its by far the hardest game.

>> No.10024968

I started with the original right at the start of the pandemic, after getting laid off. I figured I'd play it for a day or two, then move on to something else. Instead I got hard addicted and binge played it for two weeks straight, and then moved onto the Sims 2, which I've been playing on and off ever since. Give the OG a shot, OP.

The Sims 1 has my favorite aesthetic when it comes to the buildings and objects, and the overall mood, but the gameplay has clear flaws.
I personally don't it's bad enough to not give it a shot, it has its charm. That said, Sims 2 is overall a way better experience, even if I hate its aesthetic.

"selling point" doesn't inherently mean literally selling a commercial product for money you fucking ESL retards. You can "sell" someone on an idea.
"You should watch this show, it's great" "well you've sold me on it" is a completely normal exchange and so is using the phrase "selling points" to describe claims brought up to metaphorically "sell" you on something.
Cambridge dictionary:
>sell someone on something, phrasal verb, to persuade someone that something is good, valuable, or useful
Merriam Webster:
>selling point, noun, an aspect or detail of something that is emphasized (as in selling or promoting)

romantic interactions only happen autonomously between sims who are already in love with each other, regardless of their current sexual orientation, and even then there are a bunch of them they'll never do on their own iirc. there's a reason why almost every sims 2 player still recommends acr
also it's worth mentioning you can't get two sims gay married in ts1 (unless there's a hacked object that can do it, idk), you can only ask them to move in. there are "joined unions" in ts2 which are virtually identical to regular marriages but you can turn them into the latter with a mod by twojeffs. after that point the series progressively got more pozzed as society went off the deep end, but ea and maxis have always been californian so who cares lol

sims 1 is one of the few games i actually run in a win2k/xp vm, mostly because it runs surprisingly well ootb and the complete collection shits itself and thinks you've uninstalled an expansion if you use system restore for some reason. i haven't tried playing it natively in a while but i could only make it tolerable on modern hardware by running it with dgvoodoo2 and the widescreen patcher if you want that, i swear to god ts1 used to run fine on every pc i tried installing it on, and then one day i had a bitch of a time setting it up on windows 8.1 and it's been problematic ever since. it's not just a win10+ thing, i'm pretty sure modern nvidia/amd drivers just hate old maxis games or something. simcity 3000 has a similar issue with laggy menus for no apparent reason that i couldn't fix with dgvoodoo iirc, simcity 4 needs dgvoodoo as well, sims 2 has the infamous black shadow bug and inexplicable pink flashing that no one's managed to fix yet, jesus fucking christ what was maxis smoking back then

The GT4W complete collection works on my Win10 machine, I use the widescreen patch.

>> No.10035848

The G4TW version definitely works on Win10, use the included crack and then patch it with the widescreen patch. If you can't get that to run, there's something wrong on your end specific to your machine.

I played Sims 1, Living Large, House Party and had a blast when they came out. I recall Hot Date too but don’t recall much. Those two first expansions were all you needed for an absolute blast. Sims 1 was the best. It was challenging as fuck and I loved it cause it was apolitical. If anything it had a traditional bend.
