this was underrated, how come people don't talk about it as much compared to Wrath of Heaven? also is there anything else worth playing?

Came out later on, diminishing returns. Also no gore like the previous 3 games, and no Rikimaru. No, Fatal Shadows is the last Tenchu worth playing.

Don't know maybe the series just kind of faded by this point? I know I kind of just stopped caring for it after 3. I enjoyed 1-3 a lot though. I was watching a bit of a playthrough of 3 actually a few days ago. It really struck me just how jank the game was. I'd imagine it would put off too many from ever playing it today.

there's PSP game called Bishido or something

I like how, when you jump onto someone to instakill them, but end up jumping over them, they instakill you instead.

>> No.10017739

I don't like the big drop in presentation. Compare the character select and item loadout screens in Wrath of Heaven compared to Fatal Shadows. It is like they didn't try.
More importantly, the level designs. Wrath of Heaven has longer, better designed levels. And in Wrath of Heaven you don't play the same level twice in a row with different characters; you go through the entire story with one character.
On the plus side; Ayame's character model is a bit better and it is more Tenchu.

It's cool that it's presented like a japanese TV period drama.

From Software saw too much money from neckbeard westerners over an easy to make snore fest called DEMONS SOULS

Souls like experience from soulslike players that enjoy soulslike like soulslike from soulslike and soulslike but soulslike that is very soulslike and soulslike.

From canceled their contrct with Success over that and stopped making Armored core because western fat fuckers and mass marketers have zero taste.

This game wasn't made by From. It was made by K2 a Capcom subsidiary that made every Tenchu after Tenchu 2. From was only the publisher and IP license holder.

Wasn't Japan Studio involved somehow?

I thought the level design was too cramped. Enemies sometimes showed up out of nowhere. Kinda frustrating when trying to get high ranks.

3 is definitely not jank. I'm not big into stealth games, but I found 3 to be awesome.

"DETERMINATION"

Not sure how it qualifies as "jank". All the game's systems function exactly as they should function. There's some parts that raise eyebrows, but its more in sadistic enemy placement than any sort of game mechanic failing. Tenchu 3 is pretty hard to clear with perfect ratings. The combat is laughably easy, but getting into combat tanks your score.
Oh, one plus I forgot mention is that Fatal Shadows allows you to retry a level. Much appreciated.

I meant jank as in the controls and the flow of the game. It doesn't look as smooth in how it plays like say any Assassin's Creed game does or Max Payne for example. Even MGS series and SC which are both stealth series don't look as jank in motion like Tenchu. I like the games not saying they are bad at all. Its just been a very long time since I played them through and I was going by watching a video of 3 again. The combat may be easy for the games but it still looks a lot more clunky than tons of other games.

>> No.10019929

>>10019915
Maybe so, but I can assure you that Tenchu 3 handles smoother than Metal Gear Solid 1 or 2. I've replayed all 3 games within the last 4 years. Now, Metal Gear Solid 2 is a more complicated game, and both Metal Gear Solid games have more thoughtful enemy placement, but movement and controls aren't really an issue in Tenchu (bullshit hiding just off camera is).

It amazes me how many don't understand the history of Tenchu but I think that comes with the fact that it was passed around so much and was originally developed by these very much forgotten game companies nobody remembers. So it muddied everything up and people somehow think From has always made and owned the series when it isn't the case. Just look at this picture how many devs and puibslishers are listed for the series. Also surprises me how lazy anons are that they will not do a quick google or wiki search. Another thing that surprises me is the drop off in review score from the first game to the rest of the series. Why such a big drop? Things like this are what always makes me remember why I don't listen to mainstream critics anymore. These people are just hype men glorified marketers with garbage "opinions" on gaming. 1 was a great game for sure but the sequels were also great games. I almost get the impression MGS blew these beta boys away so much that they then started to see Tenchu as shit by comparison after the first game.

If anything it would be 27.5fps. That's the framerate a 30fps game becomes on a pal system
