They never should've gone 3D, I would've killed for a proper sequel to this game

>> No.10002409

the 2d scotformer was simply on its way out during the 5th gen
ypou get some on the early days like this, Earthworm Jim 2 or Rayman, but they all pretty much went 3D

>> No.10002505

neither should mario ever went 3d
i have opinion that 2d originating games shouldnt have ever made "3d jumps" for sake of trends
if something wanted to be 3d it shoulda been 3d from the get-go

An actual sequel to the original Gex in style would've been cool but I still enjoyed the two 3D sequels.
Gex might get memed on a bunch but I personally love the franchise and hold on to a very, very small hope that it'll come back in some form in the future.

Play Pandemonium OP, it's a 2.5D platformer by the same developers and it's fantastic imo

It's a Gex thread, so any new quips?

After Super Mario 64 every platform had to go 3D. It was like mandatory. 2D platforming was so 16-bit... SCEA and SoA didn't want any old granny 2D shit on their market: only mind breaking 3D grafix!!!

From what I was told, Gex was originally supposed to be an, ahem…euphemism for “Gay Sex”. Because they couldn’t outright call it that, a portmanteau was invented and the rest is history.

>> No.10006030

I loved the original Gex. I thought there was so much character and humor to the worlds, the power-ups were fun and I liked that you could layer them. Collecting the remotes for the bonus world was fun and all the gimmick stages there were great. I mapped out the maze level on graph paper.

Then I tried playing one of the 3D ones and I couldn’t figure out how to get past a jump in the tutorial stage.

Can we talk about that? The devs were insane and I bet there are still easter eggs undiscovered in there besides the shadow man and the shootemup.

Lucky day for you OP, Gex 2 and 3 came out for GBC and they play just like Gex 1.
