Lets do a comparison of PVM CRT vs Filtered LCD.

X-men vs street fighter (at 384×224p)
CRT Sony PVM 14m2u
LCD ASUS VW246h (2ms response time)

first up is the CRT.

Well the colors are still not quite right, the contrasts are still no good, and it's missing something, like grain, stuff like that, making it look like there are just darker lines that have been added.

>Well the colors are still not quite right

that could be easily fixed with some calibration

> the contrasts are still no good

calibration could also help with that. alternatively, another type of modern display could be use (Plasma or OLED)

>and it's missing something,like grain

what? I don't see any grain on the CRT.

>making it look like there are just darker lines that have

the shader also has a subtitle blooming effect. it might be hard to pick that in these (crappy) screenshots.

Are you using RGB on the CRT? It doesn't look anywhere near as clear as it should be on a monitor like that.

I'd imagine if you used a good scaler like that Framemeister thing (and who knows, since it's professional grade that display probably has a much better scaler than consumer grade displays) it would be pretty good if you were willing to drop a lot of money.

The problem these technologies will always have vs. CRT is their inability to display multiple resolutions without scaling. This problem is usually compounded by the fact that old consoles use odd, non-standard resolutions (like 240p) that the scalers cannot understand and thus mangle. High quality external scalers like the XRGB mini are of course a good solution to this, but why drop all that money on an expensive scaler when a good CRT can be found for very cheap or even free?

>> No.1688172 [View]

>>1688146
Some HDTVs DO recognize and display 240p. There are actually 852x480 native plasmas.

You need a SCART female, like the ones you'll find on SCART switches or mergers. Then you just need to wire it correctly to the BNCs that you already have, maybe insulate it. If your monitor supports CSync you can just wire the composite to sync. If not you'll need an LM1881 "sync stripper"

Dude, I had the same TV, it was my first component television, hell I didn't even know that thing existed, and I was pretty shocked when I first used it with my recently bought Xbox 360 in 2005.

Yes, I didn't knew component existed until 2005 and I thought that "Component IN" label in the front of the TV was just a buzzword. I even realized it have S-Video and that I could connect my laptop there. What a nice TV.

The only bad thing I can say about it is that for some reason I can't configure the brightness and some games looks too dark with the component cables.

Now is sitting on my sister's room.
