Same. People thinking it looks shit are looking at the image zoomed out, as opposed to looking at it at 100% (as they should, considering it is 2560x1920).

another cliche answer, but ff7 really did it right in a lot of places. I always remember feeling like I could reach out and touch midgar when fire or electric effects were used on the backgrounds.

I disagree. Saying proto 2.5D or faux 2.5D is basically like saying pseudo-pseudo-3D.
Just call it what it is: pre-rendered 3D. It describes it perfectly and people understand what that means just fine. No need to invent silly new terminology.
