Seriously, Sonic & Knuckles is not only a great videogame accomplishment, but a great human achievement.

What is even the point of Knuckles? They made him as his edgy rival of similar capability, but Sonic already had an edgier rival of even more similar ability to himself, one who was antagonistic to the core and literally made by the enemy in Metal Sonic. There were even 3 renditions of metallic-sonics just in the Genesis series.

So he was outclassed to begin with, and then they made him something moderately close to that again in Sonic Adventure but mostly just another pal from then on out, and then made ANOTHER redundant rival in Sonic Adventure 2 who was even edgier and even more similar in ability to Sonic, and then ALSO made him into another of Sonic's pals.

Was Knuckles the product of a designer who worked briefly for them and fucking jumped ship?

Sure MK3 is 'alright' but it's where the series started to nose dive. Shit just got too goofy.

Even without adding 3 to the mix, S&K is the best stand alone Sonic evar made.
