Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't this game that killed Castlevania, it was the proto-Treasure staff involved on Castlevania 4's team that did, by fucking with the core 8-bit Castlevania gameplay which Akamatsu had envisioned for the series. If Treasure had respected his wishes and stayed true to authentic Castlevania gameplay, the series would have never lost its way.

Go play Vampire Killer for MSX2 or Spectral Interlude if you want something actually good.

Why people consider this game as the best metroidvania?
>Painfully easy, braindead easy, holy shit there are a dozen ways to break the game and they're not even that hard to stumble upon.
>Platforming aspect is very quickly made boring because you can turn into a bat and fly.
>Inverted Castle is a chore because the platforming is boring. Consider the Super Metroid Rotation hack and how interesting the platforming challenges are since you can't just fly around right off the bat. You have to use the tools you have and gain in interesting ways while in the same environment. SotN is just, fuck, the levels are so bland it just feels like an aesthetic change. The maps are not memorable.

I have no clue why people rank it anywhere close to Super Metroid. Must be the graphics and music.

This game would be 10/10 if it had a boss rush mode, since the actual level design is trash.

MGS1, as stated earlier is a hybrid 2.5d game. Not to mention its other flaws, later improved by sequels and surpassed by other game in the military/stealth genre.

Sticking with the Konami theme, SOTN, on the other hand represents the pinnacle of 2D gaming and may be (unpopular opinion) the best game of alll time.
