I just wish you got to play most of the game as one of the coolest dudes in all Final Fantasy and not his mopey annoying amnesiac son and his dorky amnesiac friends. The world and battle system are super cool though.

I'm serious, why won't you say which game in the series has better characters? Are you just here to shitpost randomly? Let's go through them and you tell me what you think is better.

Cloud is amazing, having a semi psycho unreliable narrator for a main character is very interesting. Red XIII is quite interesting. Tifa has little real development and if you think about what they do give you enough she's kind of an asshole. Barrett is a caricature, Aeris is completely flat, Yuffie is mostly just annoying.

Laguna is so fucking awesome. His friends are awesome. He has possibly the best battle music of any game in the series. The world of FFVIII is among the best in all FF, both uniquely beautiful and well built. The battle system is super fun and leads to tons of potential for creativity.

Thry had the groundwork for the best game in the wholr series, then you're stuck playing as his mopey idiot amnesiac son and his gang of idiot amnesiac friends as they bumble around.
