I play 'em all because they're fun. You're the one that's getting fanny-flustered over people liking things that you don't like. I invite you to take a step back and wonder who is the one coming across as ridiculous in this conversation.

Because there always was, though not a very well thought out or even coherent one. However, like other anons ITT have pointed out, damn near every time a new Zelda game came out, it was stated either in-game, in promotional material, or in developer interviews that it was in some way connected to an earlier title in the series:
>Zelda 1 came out
>Zelda II is a very obvious sequel
>ALttP is stated by promotional material (and maybe interviews, I don't remember well to be honest) to be a prequel featuring the ancestors of Link and Zelda
>LA isn't quite as overt, but is pretty clearly a sequel to ALttP
>OoT is stated to be a prequel to ALttP in several interviews
>MM very clearly a sequel to OoT
>Oracle games are ambiguous, perhaps deliberately so, but can only really go after ALttP or after Zelda II given Ganon being dead is a plot point
So up to this point, there ought not to have been any real controversy as to the existence of a timeline or what it looked like, with the possible exception of the Oracle games. I know there was still some debate, especially given that Miyamoto made some confused statements about it around the time of OoT's release, including saying that LA could go anywhere or something to that effect, but that's to be expected given he has never given much of a shit about story. And there were of course debates as to what exactly happened in OoT's ending, and how it could lead to ALttP with Ganondorf not holding the whole Triforce, but that was probably the worst of it. Then Wind Waker came out and totally fucked it all up by being an explicit sequel to OoT and making it impossible for any existing games to come after it, not to mention the comments about "two endings" coming from Miyamoto and especially Aonuma around its release. That's when timeline discussion became completely the domain of autists like myself all over places like GameFAQs, Zelda Universe, and elsewhere.

I suspect the value of your own posts in general may not be compromised as such by whether you actually read what you were replying to or not.
