Pretty sure that one was just someone goofing off. Akiman says the Darkstalkers 1 design team spent 3 whole months doing nothing but churning out character design concepts. If you're doing something for that long, you're bound to want to just blow off some steam at some point.

Since we're talking Darkstalkers, here are some early design candidates. These are from the point in the project where the basic concept of each character slot had been decided (vampire, werewolf, mummy, etc.) and dozens of possible designs for each were being drawn. Even earlier than that during initial brainstorming things like Japanese youkai and tree men were being thrown around, but I don't think we've ever been able to see any of that.

Here are some more early Darkstalkers concepts. They spent three whole months just churning out character design concepts for Darstalkers 1 because the lead artist at the time wanted to help train more of the company's artists in character design principles.
