I was friends with this kid in 2nd grade that wouldn't stop obsessing over this game and I was supposed to change my favorite game to this one and he got pissed off when I didn't suck it off. He was one of those types that had to be the leader of the group and formed everyone's opinions.
He could never beat it and got stuck on Cerberus. Anyways, he would talk about it every day and I eventually grew tired of it and me and another friend that hung out with him ended up making fun of it and it's battle system and how you had to wait to shoot your gun after we finally got sick of his shit. I didn't pick it back up when I was in college 12 years later and I loved it after enough time had passed.

more of a late november to december game but still good.

This game feels unfinished, like a first draft. I think it would have benefited from having more locations around the city you could visit, and more noir-like investigative sections.

Just played this game and it was fantastic. Thanks to duckstation you could make it almost look like a remaster with good models. Sadly the ending sequence didn't work so needed to watch it online. But damn was this a great game.

Playing for the first time and the music is incredibly good. Game is pure comfort food.

If I were to play one PSX horror game (ie, Parasite Eve, RE1, RE2, etc), which one should I play? And why?

This game is unbelievably short to finish, and the excessively long dialog scenes don't help. Why do people praise it so much?

Man this game is really overrated. The combat was unironically more boring than its contemporary turn-based games, the survival horror elements are extremely tacked on and the item management is annoying (not helped by the stupid jap who keeps giving you literally useless items). The story is OK but is a lot more ridiculous and full of typical japanese goofiness than I remembered, I don't know why people love it so much.

Is the sequel any better from a gameplay perspective at least?

Great game, the OST is the best part, but holy fuck was this frustrating near the end. Who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to have the last save point before a bunch of unskippable cutscenes both in-game and FMV, a final boss fight with 3 forms, and an escape/chase sequence with different routes that can lead you to a dead end resulting you to restart everything I just mentioned all over again? I didn't even bother replaying the game to experience the "bonus" 2nd ending.
The Museum level was bullshit too.

Other than that, I had fun. Aya Brea is sexy.

Is this worth playing? I was thinking about playing through it and maybe it's sequel.

So, are there any other arpgs with a battle system similar to Parasite Eve or Vagrant Story? That mixes turn-based elements with real-time movement?
