/vr/ - Retro Games

What are some reliable sites to buy retro games from? I'm looking to start buying more N64 games but my local flea markets have poor selections and any store nearby overprice.

I'd like to avoid ebay/amazo if possible. Thanks bros.

I think mine would have to be Megaman X, but I think Terranigma gets an honorable mention, only because I haven't finished but so far it's pretty amazing. Shame it wasn't in America.

Things have really gone to shit. DRM, DLC, microtransactions, early access, mobile games taken seriously, shady Kickstarters, unprecedented amounts of game cloning, achievements, "art games," "social justice," 90% of games journalists and mainstream media waging open war on gamers and the industry, DEVELOPERS waging open war on gamers and the industry, shills everywhere, publishers fire everyone all the time, Steam has too much power and will truly fuck everyone over one day... am I forgetting anything?

That red line is just going to keep going down.

What is your opinion on modern-day games which try to capture the essence of retro vidya? Like new indie games with the aesthetics and difficulty of retro vidya. Actually, if you enjoy hard platformers, modern indie games are usually much harder than games on the NES for instance.

Or do you feel that they are not the real deal and do not interest you? Is the lack of nostalgia something you miss?

And I argue this thread is on-topic as it revolves games in the framework of retro vidya.

Nintendoes what Sega does.

Fighting over this is childish. This console war bullshit and the mistakes made would come back to haunt all three companies (well, technically the PC Engine was a joint NEC/Hudson Soft project) in the coming generation. With Nintendo's fallout with Sony over the canceled CD addon for the SNES, Sony would utterly thrash all of them. Sega would never recover from it's blunders with the Sega CD and 32X and eventually quit the console business, Hudson Soft and NEC dropped out even sooner than Sega, and Nintendo would spend the next two generations in second or thrid place, only keeping dominace of the handheld market until the 7th generation.

TL;DR: All of the consoles from the 4th Generation were excellent systems. Just play them all and enjoy that you can torrent and emulate just about anything you want from that era.

Real /vr/troopers own all three systems.

The ability to fast forward gameplay, but keep music playing at normal speed.

What are your opinions regarding savestates, exploitation of bugs, Game Genie-style cheats, and the use of continues (in arcade-style games)?
