also, did you use 8-way shot?
make sure you do that
the game doesnt tell you unless you look at the options, but without it youre severely crippling your ability to stay alive. in fact, with some of the the vertical stages id be shocked if it was even possible at all
idk why that kind of mechanic didnt end up becoming a standard in more shmups
makes it feel almost like an entirely different style game
