I believe the Chaingun sprite was based on the Tootsie Toy American West Gatling Gun and not the "Ol' Painless" gatling gun model which is commonly claimed. The barrel design is closer to the first-person sprite and the body might have been inspiration for the odd boxy shape of the pickup sprite.
