Not sure what you mean by "Ted Woolsey retranslation-like" Ted didn't translate US II. It was done by 3 Japanese guys.

The PS ports use the "original difficulty" and keeps the English script from the SNES (with a couple extra lines thrown in) if that's what you're after.

It was the market research at the time that suggested that American consumers would be more comfortable with the NES design.

Also fun fact the SNES redesign was based on the fact that the vast majority of damaged NESs in American were due to water damage from spilled drinks so they designed the US SNES as blocky so that if you placed a glass on it it wouldn't spill
