every detail on it looks intentional, handcrafted, and conveys either a specific feeling, or a bit of information about the character or its state

just look at the blood coming out of her face and trickling down her neck, and compare it to the blood on the new "realistic" models, which looks like random red shiny liquid splashes

stylized representations and interpretations of the human form, however limited, will always look better than wasting all your efforts into attempting something "photorealistic" that is clearly not photorealistic in any way (as in, you wouldn't ever confuse it with reality)
