I don't know about rts games, but save scumming ruins roguelikes super fast and usually leads the people doing it to declare the whole genre is garbage.

When they realized that's what the majority of players want. Something they can sit down with and beat over a week or two so they can move on to the next thing.

More people want that than a game so hard it takes six months to start to get good at. Variety is nice.

Some did like more difficult robust games but they were mostly older and the audience and games were largely on PC.

Related but not the same thing. A game can still have been very fun on in It's time but age badly because genre standards progress so much. Pick related and no, the ascii graphics are not what I'm talking about.
