/vr/ - Retro Games

MGS1 is actually really fun to play to this day. The gameplay is so simplistic, it's stealth stripped down completely bare and it works great for the most part. Relying on the radar to spot enemies isn't great and going into FPV to scout for them does kind of fuck with the flow, if they had just added a movable camera (not a 3d camera) just one you could scroll the screen for enemies it would have been perfect.

Things I love about it:
- There are no non-lethal weapons
- Knocked out guards only stay down 10 or so seconds before they get back up
- The tight level design and close quarters sneaking means you're always on your toes, circumventing the guards by running inches close to them is waaay more fun than tranqing them from a distance
- no FPS means pretty much no two bosses play the same way

Something you either love or hate is the fact that MGS1,2 (and 3 but to a much lesser degree) is more paced around its story rather than gameplay, so in terms of story of course it makes sense that the initial infiltration would be where the game is at its most difficult, you have areas like the Heliport and the Hangar that are just way more in depth and fun to sneak around than some of the late game areas, so from a GAME point of you MGS1 has some bizarre pacing and balancing but it all comes together in a way that makes the whole experience feel special. Same can be said for 2, it has some pretty bizarre pacing but also a really good sense of variety because you're constantly doing new things.

I like the japanese one more. Looks better in persion too, the white and reflective silver is a very clean look.
