FF7 is not remade because the script wouldn't work today, every second scenario would be considered too silly. See, when people talk about FF7 today, they think of emo faglord belt-wearing characters brooding about the darkness of their souls like they did in, what was it, Advent Children.

In reality that game had crossdressing, gay scenes, Hojo and his bitches on the beach, Aeris forced to mate with a dog, Let's Mosey!, the FMVs were ridiculously inconsistent (in one scene Tifa looked realistic, in the other, she was a lego figure with tits attached), and at one point the main characters turns into a drooling autistic wheelchair bound retard.

And the English translation was the kind of "so horrible that it's funny".

If they remade FF7 today, they'd either have to change around too much of the game, or risk offending a shit load of people.
