I start generally by making the start. Sometimes I have idea for layout, but for me, it is generally easier just try out a theme first and then extrapolate from there. Then I start carving me some gameplay ideas and layout 'this sort of encounter could be nice' 'i am just gonna use these monsters' 'no SSG in this map' 'maybe the map should be a ring where you can go it clockwise or counter-clockwise'.

I am really slow mapper, however, and it can cost.
That big castle-map I was making some months ago? I don't think I am gonna release it, since it will take so long to polish it and make it work. I really like the flow of it, though...
