The famous Earth logo that also serves as an "O" in the title, is a vectorized version of the famous "Blue Marble" photo, allegedly the first picture of our planet taken by a human being. The original picture showed a picture of earth with with the South Pole on top, but NASA flipped it upside-down when they published the picture, simply due to North bias (and because human rationale would expect North to be up, and South to be down)
So basically, the "upside down" Earth on the Mother logo has the original Blue Marble in it, the one that was actually flipped over was the officially published one.

I really enjoyed EarthBound and Mother 3. I really enjoy the charm and humor of the games. Is the first game of this series worth playing? I heard it has all of the bs associated with 8-bit RPGs (lots of grinding, uninteresting battle system, one hit kills even at adequate levels, etc.). How does it compare to other RPGs of the era?

YES.
There's SO MUCH potential in the Mother series it's almost criminal that it hasn't been capitalized on yet.
I'd much rather see it made into a film series rather than seeing some two bit animation company buying up the rights only to half ass it and release it just to get more views/ratings (ex. A-1 and Ace Attorney).

I'm having fun playing Earthbound Zero (mother 1)
i guess things are a chore but i dunno
i really like the vibes and moods of each area and the music
its a real slow cook kinda game and i guess i like the childish simplicity

then again its like my chill game right now, always play at it at like 2am in the morn when im sleepy, just chippin away at it. I just got Tedd? or whoever the thug leader dude is suppose to be called cause i have custom names
