Sonic Jam obviously, the sheer amount of extras and Sonic World shows that they put a lot of love into basically what is a repackaging of old games.
Super Mario 3D All Stars is borderline not retro though, only one of the games is retro, and only 2 of them are allowed on /vr/.
Sonic Jam is 4 retro games on a retro system.
The real comparison would be if Sonic got any collection of the 3D games.
Also another way to look at it is that Sonic Jam was released on the Saturn, a console that had no real mainline Sonic game, while the N64 actually did have a mainline Super Mario game.
Anyway, if you were trying to bait with this thread, 6/10, got me to reply but I can see through your bullshit.

In my opinion, it's better this way.
Sonic World is really nice to experience, almost surreal, like playing a dreamy vaporware Sonic game for a bit.
But, getting Sonic Jam was better.
It gave us the most unique classic Sonic collection of games, ported to the actual Saturn hardware. Yes, it has some drawbacks, like some extra slowdown in Sonic 2, but at the same time it gives new modes with slight level modifications, time trials, and some neat stuff like spindash in Sonic 1, and the fixed scrolling background on Green Hill Zone from the JP release.
On top of having all the classic Genesis Sonic games including the lock-on features (something modern compilations don't even have), it has all the amazing extras found in Sonic World. All the promotional and conceptual art, all the movies, some of which are so rare that can only be found in Sonic Jam.
It really is the ultimate nostalgia bomb for fans of classic-era Sonic.
I think by owning both Sonic CD and Sonic Jam, you've got all the greatness of classic Sonic in just 2 discs.

Yeah Sonic 2 has some wonky slowdown, but to be fair, the original Sonic 2 on MD also has slowdowns. The weird thing is that Sonic 2 on Jam doesn't have the same slowdowns as on MD, but it has in other places.

Care to explain? I know the sound has some issues (although IMO not "ruined", it just has music re-starting after getting speedshoes or invincibility due to CD Audio), but I never heard any complains about the graphics, and I didn't notice anything wrong.

Sonic CD Remake by Taxman removed the timer reset mechanic, so I dunno about objectively being the "definitive", I still think the definitive is the original Sega CD version (NOT the Mega Collection one that's based on the old Windows port)
